About the role
The opportunity now exists for an experienced town planner to join BDP to help grow the planning group and share in the leadership and direction of the wider Urbanism studio.
We are seeking an Associate Town Planner to work on a wide variety of exciting projects. Our work is varied and includes planning applications, masterplans, environmental impact assessments and strategic planning advice for public and private sector clients across the healthcare, residential, mixed use, government and education sectors.
Winning new work is an important part of the role and it is desirable that candidates have a successful record gained through tender and competitive interview.
They should be client facing with the ability to develop new relationships and streams of work and have an external profile as a leader or potential leader in their field.
The position offers a real opportunity for career development at a senior level within the practice and will be reflected by an appropriate package of salary and benefits.
About you
We are looking for a planner with substantial experience and a strong technical background in statutory planning work, ideally with experience in consultancy roles.
You will be interested in design and developing a close working relationship with design teams. This is a client facing role requiring confident written and verbal communication to deliver planning advice that assists with strategy development, decision-making and problem solving.
Candidates must be able to lead and manage projects, and undertake complex negotiations with clients, local planning authorities, stakeholders and community groups in order to gain planning permissions.
Expertise in managing engagement is desirable.
As an enthusiastic team player, you will enjoy working in a collaborative team environment to tight deadlines and demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, including the project teams, clients, local communities and external consultants.
Candidates will have a strong record of taking a leading role within planning teams, with a particular focus on developing and mentoring junior members of the team.
