Governance and Compliance Manager – Lead Governance Excellence in NHS Data

Working Conditions:

- Hybrid role with flexibility for home working.
- Permanent position,
- 37.5 hours per week.

Job Purpose:

The Corporate Compliance and Governance Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing the governance framework for the Federated Data Platform (FDP) programme. This role involves leading governance meetings, managing the PMO Secretariat, ensuring the quality of all governance material, and supporting business planning processes to drive compliance and organisational effectiveness.

The Federated Data Platform:

NHS England’s Data and Analytics Directorate is driving the transformation to put patients in control of their data, support clinicians, decision-makers, and researchers with real-time, high-quality data, and empower the NHS Data Community to leverage their skills for high-value opportunities. We pride ourselves on our dedication, creativity, and values-driven approach to improving decision-making across health and care, helping people live healthier, longer lives.

The NHS relies on data every day to manage patient care and plan services, but it is often stored in systems that don’t communicate with each other, creating burdens for both patients and staff. The Federated Data Platform connects these systems, allowing each Trust and Integrated Care Board to manage their own customised version, enhancing data integration and care coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee the forward plan for all core governance meetings, ensuring high standards and timely execution.
- Manage the PMO Secretariat, providing leadership and guidance to ensure effective governance support.

- Lead the development and implementation of high-quality processes for corporate compliance.
- Support the FDP programme’s business planning processes, focusing on commercial, finance, and workforce activities.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure adherence to governance and compliance standards.

Essential Skills & Experience:

- Extensive experience in managing governance structures and corporate compliance in a complex environment.
- Proven track record in business planning and financial management within the public or healthcare sector.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and developing teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to senior stakeholders.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to drive effective decision-making.

Desirable Experience:

- Previous experience in a healthcare or public sector setting, particularly within the NHS.
- Knowledge of governance frameworks and best practices.

Qualifications:

- Educated to Master’s level or equivalent experience working at a senior level in a specialist area.
- Membership in a relevant professional body is desirable.

Why Join Us?

This role offers the opportunity to lead meaningful healthcare transformation. You’ll be working at the forefront of digital healthcare, shaping the future of data-driven decision-making in the NHS. Your work will directly impact patient care and operational efficiency across your region.

Benefits & Perks:

- Band 8b salary range ( £62, 215 - £72,

293), dependent on experience and the number of years you have worked within the NHS.
- 27 days annual leave (increasing with service) plus bank holidays.
- Access to professional development opportunities, with training provided on government-wide platforms.
- Support for mental wellness and a commitment to work-life balance.

Next Steps:

We value independent thinking and risk-taking. We believe that every team member should have the opportunity to contribute and share their ideas. Our culture encourages a healthy work-life balance, and we strive to create an enjoyable and supportive working environment.
