Tooling and Process Officer – Shape the Future of NHS Data Systems

Working Conditions:

- This is a hybrid role with the flexibility of primarily working from home. However, you will be required to attend the NHS England Waterloo office for in-person meetings and collaboration.
- Permanent position,
- 37.5 hours per week.

Job Purpose:

The FDP Systems, Tooling and Process Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the NHS to become data-enabled over the next decade. This position focuses on overseeing the use of key tools like Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint, developing SOPs, and leading the coordination of training and development activities within the programme.

The Federated Data Platform:

NHS England’s Data and Analytics Directorate is driving this transformation to put patients in control of their data and care, support clinicians, decision-makers, and researchers with access to trusted, real-time, and high-quality data, and empower the NHS Data Community to apply their skills to high-value opportunities. We pride ourselves on our work, motivation, creativity, and living our values, with the purpose of driving insight for better decision-making across health and care to help people live healthier, longer lives.

The NHS uses data every day to manage patient care and plan services. Currently, it is held in different systems that do not communicate with each other, creating extra burdens for patients and staff. Better use of existing data brings benefits to patients by ensuring more joined-up care, improving health outcomes, and ultimately helping to save lives. The Federated Data Platform connects existing NHS systems, allowing each Trust and Integrated Care Board to manage their own customised version,

enhancing data integration and care coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee the use of Jira and Confluence to ensure consistency across NHS programmes.
- Develop and maintain SharePoint sites and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for tooling processes.
- Act as the main point of contact for programme tooling and systems, providing expert advice and resolving queries.
- Coordinate training and development activities across the team, ensuring effective use of systems and tooling.
- Contribute to the strategic planning of team projects, supporting performance improvement and governance strategies.

Essential Skills & Experience:

- Significant experience using Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, and MS Project in multiple programmes.

- Proven ability to develop and document formal SOPs and deliver training on programme tooling.
- Strong analytical skills with the capability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
- Knowledge of project principles, techniques, and tools such as PRINCE2.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex information to stakeholders.

Desirable Experience:

- Experience in a healthcare environment, preferably within the NHS.
- Familiarity with product development environments and system integration.

Qualifications:

- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
- Postgraduate degree or relevant project management certifications are desirable.

Benefits & Perks:

- 27 days annual leave (increasing with service) plus bank holidays.
- Access to professional development opportunities, with training provided on government-wide platforms.
