Job summary

The Clinical Advisor – Nursing, reporting to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for NICE, is a senior nurse in clinical practice probably as a nurse consultant, nurse practitioner or nurse prescriber and with a strong background in evidence-based medicine. The role faces both externally and internally. The postholder will deliver both engagement with key nursing stakeholders and provide end to end support for guidance development bringing a nursing perspective to ensure that NICE’s guidance ‘speaks’ to the nursing profession and crucially, supports decision making by the nursing profession.





The person appointed will be seen as a credible voice for NICE on all nursing matters both by those working in other organisations and within NICE.

This is a senior strategic leadership role working with considerable autonomy and will contribute to the Clinical Directorate’s core tasks, particularly that of guidance prioritisation

Job Description

The post holder will be responsible for a wide range of duties covering areas such as leadership and advice, nursing and midwifery networks, guidance development, communication, planning and organisation and research and development.







Example of what will be expected of the role:

- Be the visible nursing leader for NICE setting out our strategic plan, in line with NICE’s corporate objectives, for how we support and engage with the nursing profession over the lifetime of the NICE strategy.
- Contribute to the review of principles of engagement, partnership agreements or similar with key national stakeholders for nursing and midwifery.
- Provide routine operational nursing advice to NICE teams on individual topics, themes, pathways and suite of guidance within own area(s) of expertise, as required.
- Contribute a nursing perspective to NICE methodologies for developing guidance, surveillance and updates.






- Assist the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Team with strategy development.
- Gather and collate qualitative (and support quantitative) insights from the nursing profession to inform NICE’s direction in developing guidance, support and advice for nurses.
