Gynaecology Clinical Teaching Fellow with interest in Endometriosis & Benign Gynaecological Minimal Access Surgery and Honorary Clinical Lecturer

Main duties of the job

St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the main Teaching Hospital linked to St George's University of London and plays a significant role in medical students teaching.

This post has been established to enhance the teaching of medical and physician associate students in the Trust and St George's Medical School.

There is an Undergraduate Co-coordinator based at the Trust who can support the organization of teaching within the Trust.







This post will be responsible for under-graduate teaching activities within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology division and performing research in Endometriosis for 50% of the post holder's time during the week.

Part of this time will be allocated to further develop teaching skills and to register for the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Education course.

For the remainder 50% of the week, the appointee will be helping with the endometriosis clinics, theatres, consent clinics and the endometriosis MDT to develop the individual's career.

The post holder will teach and co-ordinate students across all the Obstetrics and Gynaecology division to ensure that students are able to achieve their learning objectives.

There will be close liaison with other Clinical Teaching Fellows in the Trust, to enhance the coordination or undergraduate clinical teaching of medical students.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will play an important role in the development and delivery of clinical teaching to medical students on the St George's University MBBS programme.

Teaching will include the design and delivery of face to face or virtual teaching sessions via university and Trust platforms,

Bedside teaching sessions, the appointee will organize and run a clinical skills course, using simulation to teach vaginal examination and speculum examination and clinical PBLs.

The successful candidate must support the teaching of health, safety and infection control requirements including good hygiene practices,





appropriate and safe use of scrubs / uniform and PPE for students.

Administrative tasks will include timetabling and liaising with the lead for undergraduate teaching and the teaching coordinator.

There are two MBBS programs, a 5-year course in which students are predominantly school- leavers, and a 4 year fast track course for graduate students.

Students are admitted through a competitive selection process. The two courses merge for the clinical years.

GMC Registration MRCOG

Experience

- Successful completion of ST4 training in obstetrics and gynaecology or equivalent. If NTN, agreement of PG Dean or Head of School or Chair STC for OOP.
- CV demonstrating evidence of interest in Endometriosis & Benign Gynaecology

Desirable







- Publications in peer reviewed journals
- Participation in NIHR approved Research
- Presentations in National & International Conferences including BSGE

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

- Knowledge of diagnosis and management of endometriosis and common gynaecological conditions
- Management of acutely ill patients
- Competence in performing laparoscopic salpingectomy independently

Desirable

- Demonstration of experience in gynaecological surgery
- Competence in Transvaginal Ultrasound

Teaching

Essential

- CV demonstrating evidence of teaching skills
- CV demonstrating evidence of organisation of teaching

Desirable

- CV demonstarion evidnece of lecturing and undertaking assessment
- Knowledge of PBL , online teaching
- Experience in surgical video editing
- Experience in designing e-learning courses
