Job overview

The Clinical Charge Nurse role is suitable for Registered Nurses who have successfully completed Preceptorship and have registered as an approved NMC mentor.

The post holder will deliver, or advise on the delivery of high quality safe

nursing care, ensuring consistently high standards of practice and clinical

excellence which comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct.

As a Clinical Charge Nurse you will promote and develop clinical leadership and clinical practice and be a positive role model to junior members of the team through the practice of evidence-based care.

You will be expected to support professional development through clinical







appraisal and supervision and contribute to the ongoing educational

Programme for staff, fostering a positive learning environment. Your

professional and personal development will include further study, and you will be encouraged and supported by your line manager to undertake

these further development.

As a senior nurse working within the South London and the Maudsley's NHS Foundation Trust you are required to encourage and foster collaborative and organisational working.

Your main duties will involve :

- Providing robust leadership on the ward
- Role modelling to junior colleagues
- Deputising ward manager in their absence
- Supervisions and appraisals
- Completing staff’s competencies
- Audits
- Rota completion
- Maintaining safer staffing levels
- Leading on Quality Improvement initiatives






- Participating in their own professional development
- Duty Senior Nurse
- Managing the ward budget
- Managing staff conflict
- Dealing with formal and informal complaints
- DATIX reviewing and fact finder completion

Registered Mental Health Nurse / Registered LD Nurse

Mentorship

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

- Expereince of using supervision to reflect on skills / attitude / knowledge
- Knowledge of Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation

Desirable criteria

- Experience of shift coordination
- Experience of supervising / mentoring junior staff or students

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria

- Ability to provide quality care that is responsive to service users needs, without close supervision
- Self aware and self motivated
- Advocates for all individuals, particularly those with protected characteristics
- Forms effective workign relationships with colleagues
- Resilience - able to manage difficult interpersonal situations

Desirable criteria

- Good IT skills






- Able to provide critical and constructive feedback

Other

Essential criteria

- Flexibility to work shift patterns across 24hrs, 7days a week and across all clinical areas within the Trust as required
- Empathy for service users including individuals who have experienced mental health problems
- Ability to fulfil all the requirements of the role (including physical)
