An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered chemotherapy nurse, or experienced band 5 staff nurse wishing to become chemo competent by undertaking SACT training, to join our Cancer Nursing Team at our sister unit at Pembury Hospital.

You will work within the team to provide outstanding clinical support and care for patients under the care of the Oncology / Haematology Department.

Patients are offered expert clinical care which is compassionate and individualised

You should possess excellent clinical, communication and organisational skills and be prepared to professionally develop to meet the needs of the service.







You should be visible and accessible with quality and standards as your priority. You will need to be flexible and resilient in order to cope with the demands of the role.

Main duties of the job

You should be able to combine autonomy with team working sensitivity and professionalism.

You will be expected to adopt a holistic, pro-active and dynamic approach, being responsible for the delivery of a high standard of care and service to the patients.

You will in association with your colleagues be required to support patients and their carers on all aspects of their care, be they newly diagnosed, or being treated with palliative intent.

SACT (chemotherapy) trained nurses are offered a band 6 post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics.

The programme is full-time (please email if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites.





The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level.

Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children).

Qualifications

Essential criteria

First level registered nurse registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council

Desirable criteria







- Evidence of further education since qualification e.g. diploma / degree
- Evidence of ongoing CPD
- Mentorship / Practice assessor
- Advance Life Support provider

Experience / Knowledge

Essential criteria

- Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice at the level of a newly qualified nurse.
- Understanding of equality and diversity and how to apply it to self.
- Understanding of NMC Code and requirements of it for own practice and behaviour.

Desirable criteria

- Experience at Band 5 in an acute setting.
- Proficient clinician and clinical role model.
- Understanding of audit and benchmarking processes
- Use of Electronic documentation / EP

Skills

Essential criteria

- Able to assess plan,





implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients / clients and give relevant advice / information to patients and relatives
- Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and administration of blood products
- Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information. To include dealing with distressed relatives, care of terminally ill and other challenging situations
- Is able to manage team and individual performance
- Cannulation and venepuncture
- IV administration competent
- Good interpersonal skills

- CVAD Competent
- IT / Keyboard skills
- PICC placement
- SACT competent
- Commitment to teaching others
