Paediatric Therapy Assistant Practitioner 37.5 hr/ week

If you are passionate about working with children and young people and want to support their recovery and achieve their potential then this is the post for you!

Following significant investment in the Children’s Therapy team, we have 2 new Therapy Assistant Practitioner (TAP) roles to complement our team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, as well as other support staff, based at the Leicester Children’s Hospital at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Using skills from both professions you can be the person to help a patient reach that next milestone and beyond.

You will work in the established Children’s Therapy team which provides services to children and young people across a wide variety of inpatient specialities, including; Intensive Care and High Dependency Units, neo-natal unit, East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre, surgical and medical wards, orthopaedics, neurology, and oncology, as well as outpatient services focusing on patients with musculoskeletal and rheumatological conditions. We also have specialist roles within services such as; Cystic Fibrosis, Long Term Ventilation, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, Complications of Excess Weight, and Difficult Asthma.

You will receive regular supervision, annual appraisal, and benefit from a comprehensive induction and teaching package. There will be opportunity for you to be able to further develop your skills in a variety of areas.

Your role will be to take responsibility for supporting the Therapy team to provide treatment and rehabilitation to our patients. This will include autonomously carrying out assessments, treatments and interventions following guidance of therapy staff.

Treatments Have a Focus On Helping Children And Young People To Achieve Their Potential In a Holistic And Patient-centred Way. This Could Include

- supporting patients to complete their regular therapy programmes,
- getting patients up and mobile following illness, injury or operation so they can return home,
- issuing and adjusting appropriate equipment to support discharge,
- enabling participation in activities of daily living,
- completing exercises with the patients,
- running group sessions,
- supporting patients with developmental delays to achieve both physical and cognitive milestones.

Your role will also include administrative tasks that are vital to ensuring the smooth running of the team, so you will need good IT skills.

You will also need to be able to demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills, be able to work on your own, and within a team.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We Have Four Primary Goals

- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
