Job summary

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Eastern Services, based at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, are seeking to appoint a Consultant AHP / Nurse to co-lead the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit as part of the Stroke Department within the Medicine Care Group.

This appointment would be on a fixed-term basis for 2 years. As well as individuals looking for part time work only, applications are also invited from those who may wish to be seconded into this role on a part-time basis whilst continuing to work reduced hours in an existing role.

This is an exciting opportunity to enhance inpatient care and discharge from hospital of patients undergoing rehabilitation following a stroke.

The Stroke Rehabilitation Unit,





where the post is situated, is a 16-bedded unit caring for patients with stroke rehabilitation potential who have been transferred from the Acute Stroke Unit.

Working closely with our Consultant Physiotherapist, the postholder will :

- Be responsible for the development and leadership of the rehabilitation beds on the stroke rehabilitation unit, including admission, discharge and patient care.
- Be the responsible clinician for a defined caseload of patients.
- Work across the entire stroke pathway to facilitate the development of a co-ordinated service for patients with stroke, and for those needing stroke-rehabilitation within area.
- Maintain and develop relationships with external partners ( level 1 and 2 specialist rehabilitation units,





Peninsula Trauma Rehabilitation Network) to optimise transitions of care.
- Be accountable for delivery of stroke rehabilitation.

Suitably qualified applicants from Nursing and AHP backgrounds who are passionate about the holistic, multidisciplinary care and rehabilitation of patients who have experienced a stroke are encouraged to apply.

Prescribing / deprescribing would be an essential part of the role so the post is unlikely to suit individuals with an Occupational Therapy background.

Working Pattern : hours per week,3 days per week

Pay : The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2024-5 rates, inclusive of a pay award implemented from October 2024.

If you join before this date,





the pay award will be backdated to April 2024 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2023-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2023 / 24 NHS Employers).
