Job summary

SCPHN School Nurse Band 6

Redbridge has a number of exciting opportunities for Band 6 School Nurses. Qualified School Nurses with SCPHN qualification or Student School Nurses about to qualify with SCPHN preferred , however candidates who do not hold the SCPHN qualification but have experience working with children and young people in the community will be considered.

We are looking to recruit motivated practitioners with initiative and drive to join our friendly and enthusiastic team and contribute to the further development of our service.







We work within a 0 -19 Healthy Child contract and our services works in close collaboration with Children Centre's as well as other agencies to improve outcomes and reducing health inequalities for children, young people and their families in our borough.

Newly qualified practitioners have a Preceptorship Programme in place to aid their development. We also offer a wide range of 'in-house' and other training opportunities for continuous professional development through our learning and development department as well as clinical supervision and will need to have the ability to work autonomously and as part of an integrated skill mix team.

You need to have excellent communication skills and experience of working in partnership across organisational boundaries.

You need to be willing to facilitate and support change in service delivery.

Main duties of the job

This role includes working alongside social care, targeted services, children's centre's, schools and members of the multi disciplinary team to ensure health equalities for all children, young people and families in Redbridge.







You will support the Healthy child programme by undertaking mandated contacts for the 5-19 community including universal and targeted.

As part of this role, the successful candidate will support the 0-19 skill mix team with supervision of colleagues and students as appropriate.

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement,





health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High-Cost Area Supplement This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735) pro rata for part time staff.

Welcome Payment

This post is eligible for the Trust 'Welcome to NELFT' Payment, a lump sum of 10% of agreed basic salary (pro rata if part time and exclusive of HCAS payments) (subject to a minimum of £4,000 and maximum of £10,000) and is open to all new applicants who are successfully appointed.

Payment of the incentive is 50% of the lump sum at the end of the probationary period (typically six months) and then 50% at the end of year two.

Qualifications

Essential

- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Diploma / Degree Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - School Nurse
- Non-Medical prescribing
- Relevant expereince working with children / young people

Experience

Essential

- Able to provide evidence of undertaking ongoing training and personal development Health Needs Assessment, Child Protection training
- Experience of partnership working with external agencies and organisations
- Experience of working across organisational boundaries within health / social care
- Experience of employing evidence based practice






- Clinical Supervision
- Experience of multi-disciplinary team working

Knowledge

Essential

- An awareness of NHS Plan, NSF and clinical governance priorities
- Good understanding of the Healthy Child Programme
- Knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance
- An understanding of professional, personal and managerial accountability
- An understanding of leadership and team dynamics including conflict resolution
- Good knowledge of current legislation relating to Safeguarding children and young people and how it relates in clinical practice
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of National and local policies and guidance that relates to children's health services
- An understanding of the NHS Modernisation Agenda
