Job summary

Do you have a passion for working in an acute inpatient environment. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Nurse Practitioner to join an established leadership team to support, lead and direct the clinical care and operation within an Acute inpatient ward.

Dovedale 2 Ward is a 12 bedded male acute ward that has recently moved from Maple Ward at the Longley Centre to support its refurbishment which is estimated to complete in 2025.

Following this Dovedale 2 ward will relocate back to Maple ward, which will be a 17 bedded unit.

We are seeking a dynamic, motivated individual with an interest in service and staff development,





quality improvement and a passion to ensure our service users receive high quality, compassionate, trauma informed care.

The individual will work in close collaboration with the Ward Manager to ensure that the clinical priorities and standards of care are achieved as we move through a period of transformation across our acute and PICU services.

The post offers opportunities to gain experience in the development of Acute Inpatient Services in Sheffield

You will need to be a Registered Mental Health Nurse with proven experience of clinical leadership. You should be a confident, competent, and person-centred leader with a high level of clinical skills and knowledge of inpatient care and of the standards and procedures that direct and influence this system.

Main duties of the job

- The primary focus of the Senior Nurse Practitioner is to deliver person centered and trauma informed care within the defined inpatient area.
- The post holder will undertake comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, manage a complex cohort of service users, provide advice, support,





deliver high quality interventions.

They will also monitor medication management and concordance and monitor their effects.

- To robustly work to develop and deliver safe and effective services, in accordance with key evidence-based care, relevant accreditation schemes, national targets, clinical standards, service priorities and performance indicators set by internal and external policies.
- Work in partnership with commissioners, regional service colleagues and other partner agencies to provide inpatient services that achieve the best possible outcomes for service users.
- Demonstrate through practice the relevant competency framework at an enhanced specialist level, including person-centred care, therapeutic skills, sharing knowledge,





best practice, and critical reflective practice.
- Work 80% clinically within the ward numbers and 20% non-clinically to support ward development.
- To act as a lead for safeguarding to ensure the team are upholding safeguarding principles and processes within clinical practices.
- To be responsible to lead and uphold IPC standards within the clinical environment.

Job responsibilities

- To lead the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols relevant to the inpatient area in partnership with relevant colleagues
- To provide expert advice and clinical support to colleagues, contributing directly to the formulation and treatment plan.
- To provide specialist care for individuals presenting with or at high risk of developing physical health risks.






- Responsible for the evaluation of specific projects and formulate reports to inform future service provision / developments.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the service, reporting outcomes against agreed service standards and performance indicators, participation in clinical audit, patient satisfaction questionnaires etc.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the resource implications of clinical decision making.
- Participate in the induction of any new team members / students offering advice support, and teaching / development opportunities as required.
- Provide timely, accurate statistical information to demonstrate clinical activity
- Ensure own personal practice and professional development is planned and achieved in line with revalidation requirements.






- Provide clinical leadership and act as an expert resource and role model for the multidisciplinary team.
- The post holder will be expected to provide evidence-based care and have an active involvement in any research and audit within their sphere of responsibility.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

oSpecialist knowledge of Mental Health inpatient care specific to the area working in ( acute, older adults, rehabilitation and forensic services).

oKnowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, national legal frameworks. oKnowledge of Safeguarding Adults and Children policies and procedures.

oKnowledge of Clinical Governance and its application in practice. oKnowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Procedures.







oAbility to demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and awareness of current evidence base relevant to the area of practice.

oOrganisational ability and time management skills. oAdvanced clinical assessment skills. oExcellent interpersonal skills.

oAbility to prioritise and problem solve. oPresentation skills. oExcellent oral and written communication skills oAbility to critically appraise research to evaluate and enhance practice oKnowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences / is a trauma informed clinician

Desirable

oAwareness of wider health and social care agenda relating to specific inpatient ward. oKnowledge of audit tools. oPassionate about trauma informed service development

Qualifications

Essential

oRegistered Mental Health Nurse.





Non-Medical Prescriber Qualification (or willingness to work towards until achieved) oDegree level qualification or significant equivalent demonstrable clinical experience.

o Mentorship qualification. oStudent mentorship training / qualification. oEvidence of post-registration Continuing Professional Development.

Desirable

oMasters level equivalency knowledge, education and skills training. oTeaching and Assessing qualification. oClinical Supervision qualification / training.

Clinical Leadership qualification / training.

Experience

Essential

oSubstantial post-registration experience. oEvidence of achievement in clinical practice and / or leadership within an area of speciality.

oWorking knowledge of Clinical Governance. oEvidence of implementing innovation and change in clinical practice. oEvidence of undertaking clinical audit and / or research in clinical practice.

Desirable

oIT Skills. oExperience working with patients in the specific area. oClinical and theoretical teaching in a range of contexts.
