Job summary

The post holder will be a care coordinator responsible for assessing and treating a rangeof mental health and significant behavioural difficulties in children and young peoplewhom are referred to the will carry out risk assessments with children & young people and their familiesroutinely and work under the supervision of the team manager and senior clinicalsupervisor to manage these situations will be part of the daily duty rota for the service, which involves screening andmanaging new referrals, telephone queries and supporting the team where will work with other CAMHS practitioners in the service from all disciplines.







You willbe a member of a number of internal and external professional networks to ensure thatcare plans for individual children and services across agencies are co-ordinatedefficiently and effectively.

This post is a clinical post and the expectation is that 75% ofyour time is spent in clinical practice. You may clinically and / or professionally supervise, advise or manage junior members

If you are trained in cognitive behavioural therapy, play therapy, art therapy you may apply for this post and your clinical skills will be an added asset for the Symbol team

Main duties of the job

Assume responsibility for own case list and case management of children, adolescentsand families who are determined to be at low / medium / high a clinical formulation from a standard CAMH assessment, including risk assessment, on which to recommend a treatment intervention.

Design, write and sharea copy of the care plan with children, young people and their carers. Carry out the planned intervention with minimal safeguarding issues for own case and refer concerns to Child Protection teams.







Deliver interventions for children and young people with (add specific client group and the evidence-based interventions that will be required with this group with a starting pointbelow masters level training).

The treatment interventions provided would be based on NICE guidelines and evidence based practice. Reasons for exceptions must bedocumented and agreed with your individual, group work, family work, advice and supervision according to the needs of children and young people and have a flexible and innovative approach to packagesof care.

Participate and lead in joint complex assessments with other disciplines and other agencies and provide reports for referrers, families and other agencies as required.







Maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication with other professional agencies and departments, providing specialist advice and support where appropriate.

About us

This role is for the Symbol therapy team for children looked after, adopted children and children on special guardianship orders.

Lewisham is a borough with very high social needs and high levels of mental illness in child population of Lewisham aged 0-19 years is now estimated to be 64,000 (UK National30% of households in some wards are without a wage earner.

Children from black and ethnicminority groups represent 37% of the child population of 0-14 year olds. The number of children looked after by the local authority is approximately 480.

Participate as a multi-disciplinary team member in the setting and reviewing oftherapeutic aims, objectives, standards and strategies to provide a high standard of careto ensure that all recording and reporting of client contact is accurate, up to date and ofgood quality and within CAMHS & professional requirement standards of record collect & collate information about individual clinical activity on with the team and clients to maintain a safe therapeutic environment.

Work toassure the quality of care through achieving high operational standards in maintain and ensure good professional standards and attitudes towards the care andtreatment of children,





young people and their link with other statutory and voluntary agencies and professionals as well as otherCAMHS Teams in terms of referrals and joint work.

Maintain good relationships andclear lines of communication with other professional agencies and departments,providing specialist advice and support where appropriate.

Contribute to the effective functioning of the team and service through attendance atrelevant meetings, taking responsibilities within the service as appropriate andnegotiated with the line manager.

Supervise junior members of the team (Band 5 - 6) or trainees from any discipline.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

- All applicants will require a undergraduate degree or above qualification






- All applicants will require a professional training and relevant CAMHS experience in combination with professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies : the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) , Health & Care Professional's Council (HPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), or British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

Desirable

- ENB 998 or mentorship and or equivalent experience and training (Nursing only)
- Further post qualifying training and education in working with children and adolescents with mental health problems.

Experience

Essential

Assessed supervised clinical experience working with children and adolescents with mental health problems / needs or clear evidence of transferable skills.

Working in collaboration with supervisor, service user, carers and MDT in assessing needs,





planning and implementing care

- Taking responsibility for care delivery in a specific area and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment
- A good understanding and some experience of the following : Group, individual and family work, multi-disciplinary work, clinical governance and audit and the process of clinical supervision in CAMHS

Desirable

- Working with Looked After Children and foster carers

Knowledge

Essential

- A good working knowledge of the following : Mental health disorders in children and adolescents
- Difficulties common to Looked After Children attachment difficulties Key legislation relevant to CAMHS setting : The Children Act 1989, 2004 and The Mental Health Act 1983,





Human Rights Act 1998 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 London Child protection procedures
- Assessment of risk and management of risk factors The principles of clinical governance and practice.
- The principles underlying confidentiality and information sharing

Desirable

- Relevant research and its application to assessment, treatment and case management of CAMH disorders.
- Research informed and evidence based methods of assessment, treatment and case management.

Skills & abilities

Essential

- Ability to work therapeutically with the client group, using a range of therapeutic interventions
- Ability to work under pressure. Ability to take on new concepts / forward thinking
- Good written and verbal presentation skills Basic IT and data entry skills to enter clinical information into databases.
- Ability to work within a changing environment Ability to be 'reflective' in therapeutic practice and adapt practice from this reflection
- Demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

- Skill in using a specific therapy in practice
