Job summary

The Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service in Brighton and Hove is looking to recruit a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (Band 4).

You will have experience of working with children in a clinical or educational setting. You will have knowledge of child development and experience of making and recording observations of children learning, development and behaviour.

You will have a specific interest in children's communication and how it can be supported. You will be able to work as part of a team and independently.

You will be willing to learn new skills. You will have excellent communication skills.







The successful candidate will be join our large Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service working with preschool and school age children with complex development and communication needs and their families to support their interaction, communication, language and play skills.

While this post is being advertised as a part time role (equivalent to 4 days per week), we are willing to consider candidates looking for full time work.

Main duties of the job

To be clinically responsibility for a caseload of patients who have been delegated by a registered member of staff.

To progress and manage own caseload of patients with freedom to act within structured parameters.

To have the ability to use initiative and feedback to relevant registered member of staff.

To provide treatment and care programmes to clients on an individual or group basis.







To report and document variances in a patient's condition or planned pathway of care to the registered member of staff.

To maintain high standards of clinical care as defined by the Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.

Work autonomously within the MDT or service in the delivery of planned rehabilitation, interventions and health care programmes.

To assess patients within an agreed caseload under the direction of the therapist, using a predetermined protocol.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To be clinically responsible for a caseload of patients who have been delegated by a registered member of staff.

To organise your caseload on a day to day basis effectively and efficiently with regard to priorities and use of time.







To review and reflect on your own practice through regular participation in clinical supervision and annual appraisal with nominated supervisor, as per Trust policy.

To support the registered clinician with the clinical supervision of Band 3 staff.

To provide clinical observation opportunities for under graduate and work experience students.

To participate in training programmes, staff meetings, audit and clinical governance.

To demonstrate appropriate duty of care in relation to equipment and resources.

To be responsible for maintaining and developing own competency to practice in line with agreed PDP, through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.







To participate in continuing professional development activities individually and as part of the service ensuring own personal development.

To undertake relevant activities to meet training objectives in line with the Calderdale framework.

To exercise good personal time management, punctuality and consistent reliable attendance.

To participate as necessary in service development, service audit and outcome measurement to ensure the provision of evidence-based practice.

With appropriate training, to demonstrate an enhanced level of specialist knowledge linked to the delegated patient caseload of the team and to be able to work with adults / children with a variety of conditions.

- Experience working with Children in a health or education setting in a professional capacity
