Job Title : Senior Fund Controller
Business Unit : Real Estate Debt Europe
Location : London
Overall Purpose of Role
Senior partner and adviser to the portfolio management team,
responsible for all financial and operational activities for Barings Pan European open ended debt fund and several separate accounts.
Principal Responsibilities
Investor communication
- Regular meetings with and presentations to investors.
- Preparation of investor questionnaires and ad-hoc financial analysis requested by investors
- Support Investor Relations and Fund Analyst through timely and accurate responses to ad hoc queries
- Coordinating with lawyers, accountants and other advisors in drafting responses to questions from potential investors during fund raising
- Work with the legal advisers and administrators in on-boarding investors and developing a good relationship with investors.
Reporting and financial appraisal
- Supervision of monthly and quarterly fund reporting cycles, including co-ordination and review of quarterly NAVs (IFRS), US GAAP reconciliations and payment of distributions.
- Supervision of annual financial / tax reporting process, including audit of the entities.
- Analysis of budgeted income, opex and capex expenditure
- Returns attribution analysis
Treasury
- Maintenance of cashflow model in conjunction with the fund analyst
- Funding opex and capex;
- Funding new deals;
- Repatriation of excess cash;
- Cash management; and
- FX hedging asset and share-class
Operations
- Oversight of company secretarial function, working closely with advisors and internal teams to manage the fund’s decision-making process.
- Management of corporate costs.
- Supervision of corporate and tax structure, dealing directly with advisors to carry out any necessary restructuring and develop the existing structure for new acquisitions in conjunction with the Tax Director.
Monitoring tax structure on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with original tax planning and changes in legislation.
Oversight of periodic VAT returns.
Assistance with implementation of new systems, testing and developing processes.
Debt raising and management
- Implementation of finance facilities and related security packages together with Director, Debt Capital Markets. Satisfaction of CPs, including dealing with vendors / lenders / advisers.
- Management of interest payments, draw-downs and repayments.
- Monitoring satisfaction of debt covenants.
- Preparation of periodic covenant reporting.
- Dealing with any bank queries and remedying any instances of financial default.
The Fund Controller may also be required to assist with other projects as required by Barings from time to time.
Key skills :
- Highly organised, self-starter capable of operating with little oversight
- Ability to challenge and improve existing process
- Ability to multitask across a high volume of tasks
- Ability to interpret and manage complex financial models
- Sound communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to guide senior internal and external stakeholders and advisors.
- 8 years+ experience in commercial Real Estate credit demonstrating sound commercial acumen including understanding of Real Estate valuations and other Real Estate performance metrics
- Advanced excel
- 8 years+ IFRS knowledge on Real Estate standards
- Experience with Luxembourg based open ended Funds
- Qualified Accountant
