Main duties of the job

About the Role :

We are seeking a senior HCPC-registered Clinical Embryologist with leadership and management skills. This full-time role involves overseeing our Embryology and Andrology laboratories, leading our growing PGT-A service, and contributing to research projects and the training of STP and other staff members.

Key Responsibilities :







- Provide expert clinical and scientific leadership.
- Manage laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with HFEA standards.
- Develop and implement new treatments and protocols.
- Oversee staff training and development.
- Manage the laboratory budget and contribute to strategic planning.
- Enhance patient care and lead research initiatives.

- HCPC-registered Clinical Embryologist with proven leadership and management experience.

Working for our organisation

We offer an extensive range of services, including cancer, pathology, surgery, and gynaecology to 500,000 people in south west London and north east Surrey.







We operate two busy general hospitals, Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital, and run services from other locations, including Sutton Hospital.

St Helier Hospital is home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, while Epsom Hospital is home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

Both Epsom and St Helier hospitals have Accident and Emergency departments (A&E;) and Maternity services (Obstetrics).

We also play an active role in the local healthcare economy, and are the lead provider in two innovative health and care partnerships.

We have partnered with CSH Surrey, the three GP federations in the Surrey Downs area, and Surrey Council (who are an associate member),





to provide adult community health services.

This innovative partnership is called Surrey Downs Health and Care.

In Sutton, we have joined forces with the London Borough of Sutton, Sutton GP Services and South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust to provide adult and children’s community health services and sexual health services to local people.

Together, we are called Sutton Health and Care.

Essential criteria

- Master’s degree in relevant subject
- ACE or STP certificate






- Minimum 5 years post-HCPC registration experience as a clinical scientist
- Evidence of CPD
- Diplomate of RCPath or able to apply

Essential criteria

- Experience of working as a Laboratory Manager in an IVF setting
- Experience as an STP Training Officer or Trainer
- Experience of working in a large and complex organisation in a similar role
- Ability to motivate and inspire other team members
- Confidence in achieving results in an inclusive and collaborative manner
- Ability to work effectively in a complex and changing environment
- Confident, independent and effective decision maker

Desirable criteria

- Knowledge of budget setting
- Evidence of project management experience






- Experience of working in the NHS and understanding of the key issues facing the health service
- Proven track record of line managing and / or supervising staff

Knowledge

Essential criteria

- Knowledge and experience reproductive medicine
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice

Desirable criteria

Active nationally in the field and making contributions to organising bodies (e.g., BFS, ARCS, ESHRE)

Skills

Essential criteria

- Broad range of embryology skills including embryo biopsy for PGT
- Ability to troubleshoot laboratory problems in a logical and systematic manner
- Ability to set up appropriate quality control mechanisms in the laboratory
- Broad range of IT skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, colleagues in fertility and support staff
- Excellent knowledge of, and ability to use,





spoken and written English
- Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to queries
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing
- Ability to deal sensitively and efficiently with members of the public, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times Ability to break bad news to patients with empathy where appropriate
- Ability to train and supervise junior members of the lab staff
- Ability to demonstrate leadership skills
