Job summary

Thisis a 10PA substantive consultant post supporting thePaediatric Respiratory team (Dr Tim Lee, Dr Chris Edwards, Dr Alex Adams, DrEmma Guy, Dr Evie Robson, Dr Laura Walker).

You must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience andcompetence in all aspects of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis,and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia.

It is desirable that the candidates haveexperience in bronchoscopy, sleep and long-term ventilation. The post will be based at Leeds ChildrensHospital.

All of Leeds tertiary paediatric services take place inthe Leeds Childrens Hospital, within Leeds General Infirmary in Leeds citycentre which has excellent transport links.







Since April 2010 the regionalpaediatric respiratory and cystic fibrosis service has been based at a purpose-builtoutpatient facility within the Childrens Hospital.

Leeds is also thenationally commissioned supra-regional centre for childrens Primary CiliaryDyskinesia (PCD) for the North of England.

There are over 270 paediatric inpatient beds, with a dedicatedrespiratory ward. Tertiary referrals are received in cystic fibrosis,respiratory paediatrics, oncology, haematology, PICU, neurology, gastroenterology,hepatology, nephrology, transplant (liver, renal BMT), paediatric intensivecare, neonatology, cardiology, endocrinology, rheumatology, spinal surgery,paediatric and neonatal surgery.

The service also has good links with the allergy,diabetes and paediatric ENT teams.

Main duties of the job

We provide a Respiratory Service to a city population of780,000, and a regional population of million. The Leeds / Sheffield trainingprogram offers comprehensive training to fulfil the requirements of thePaediatric Respiratory Medicine grid training syllabus.







Thesuccessful applicant should possess MRCPCH (or equivalent) and should be includedon the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview,if currently within a training programme within the UK.

In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.

Applicantsshould have established skills in all aspects of Paediatric RespiratoryMedicine and its related specialties including bronchoscopy, sleep and long-termventilation.

A strong commitment to undergraduateand postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST







To deliver care to patientswithin the Paediatric Respiratory department at the Leeds Childrens Hospital :

Out-patientclinics

Supervisionof patients

Care ofin-patients

To link with Consultant colleagues in otherrelevant site specialist teams within Paediatrics and across the Leeds ChildrensHospital.

To work with colleagues in PaediatricRespiratory to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in 6) for PaediatricRespiratory Medicine.

This includes both out-of-hours cover (remote) inaddition to acute ward rounds during normal working hours and at weekends.

To contribute to research, teaching and newdevelopments within the Paediatric Respiratory Service.





The post holder will beencouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical researchprograms on going in the department and maintain an up to date Good ClinicalPractice certificate (GCP).

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

- MB BS (or equivalent).
- MRCPCH or equivalent qualification.
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice. YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED ON YOUR APPLICATION FORM.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Either achieved certificate of completion of training or be within 6 months of completion.
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely.

Desirable

Higher degree MD / PhD relevant to the subspecialty.

Other Requirements

Essential

- Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via :
- CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or)





international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process.

Training, Research, Teaching & Audit

Essential

- Completed Grid training in paediatric respiratory medicine.
- Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training.
- Valid BLS training.
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
- Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.

Desirable

- Valid APLS and NLS.
- Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
- Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.

Management & Interpersonal Skills

Essential

- Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
- Well organised and skilled in good time management.
- Effective interpersonal skills.






- Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.

Desirable

Attendance at recognised management course.

Experience

Essential

- Must have had some experience either through training or post graduate experience of tertiary respiratory paediatrics, as demonstrated through completion of Paediatric Respiratory Grid training.
- Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

Desirable

- Be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in paediatric respiratory cases, such as cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease, sleep, long term ventilation, bronchiectasis, and primary ciliary dyskinesia.
