Job summary

Provide therapeutic dietary treatments to a caseload of paediatric clients in a clinical, special schools and home based settings in liaison with the paediatric specialist MDT.

Work closely with their Paediatric Nutrition & Dietetic Service colleagues (including 2 Band 7 Specialist Paediatric Dietitians and a Band 6 Paediatric Dietitian) to ensure the dietetic service provided to children is high quality and evidence-based.

Provide a credible and reliable source of paediatric nutrition information for health professionals and families.

Participate in the CLCH-wide Paediatric Dietitians Network.

Provide a service sensitive to the needs of, and be easily accessible to, people from various ethnic groups,





people in low socio-economic groups and people with disabilities.

Main duties of the job

- To provide therapeutic dietary advice to paediatric patients with nutrition related diseases, their carers and other health professionals regarding the management and care of their diagnosis in Primary Care.
- To demonstrate good negotiation skills, across a range of issues, with service users and professional teams (including multidisciplinary review sessions).
- To regard the health and well-being of the child with the utmost importance and to be able to plan appropriate and effective nutrition interventions for children of all ages.
- To understand the differing physiological and psychological needs of children of all ages and target nutrition interventions appropriately.
- To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice in providing appropriate interventions and evaluation of outcomes.

Job responsibilities

- To employ excellent written,





verbal and IT skills to communicate with colleagues and clients regarding patient care and project outcomes.
- To use advanced motivational skills to facilitate individual client and group treatment plans.
- To use advanced communication and negotiation skills to empower children and their families to adopt healthier lifestyles.
- To contribute to unidisciplinary and multi-disciplinary team working and policy development (eg development of risk management and quality standards).
- To use knowledge and legislation to inform clients and health professionals on food safety and to ensure that minimum food safety standards are complied with.
- To work within infection control and health and safety guidelines in order to deal appropriately with unpleasant conditions related to client contact :





for example exposure to body fluids, infectious conditions

Person Specification

Education

Essential

- Degree or postgraduate diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics
- Health and Care Professions Council registration
- Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable

- Membership of British Dietetic Association
- Post graduate qualification in a dietetic related field (eg paediatric dietetics, health promotion, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)

Experience

Essential

- Post-registration clinical dietetic experience
- Experience of providing dietetic advice for children (age 0 - 18)

Desirable

- Experience of using EMIS or a similar patient information system (eg SystmOne, RiO).
