Non-Resident Fellow General

We have an exciting opportunity for a Non-Resident Fellow to join our Medical team at The London Clinic located in Central London (Close to Regents Park & Baker Street tube stations).

We have a total of 8 premises, and state-of-the-art facilities where we perform highly complex procedures as well as routine surgery and medicine,





but you will be working in the 2 main buildings (connected by an underground corridor).

Our consultants are leaders in their respective fields; most are also affiliated to leading university hospitals in London, which makes this a unique opportunity to develop your skills and be part of a dedicated and forward-thinking team.

You will be joining a team of 4 Resident Fellows (RMOs) who provide 24 / 7 provision for the all the non-cancer non haematology beds, alongside the non resident general fellows.

You will be working also with other non- resident general fellows and will, between you, cover specific ward areas such that all patients are provided with regular review (usually 2 wards).

The cancer and haematology service is by 4 other Non-Resident Fellows (5 FTE in total) who work Mon-Fri. The Oncology provision is provided by a team 4 Resident Oncology Fellows, supported by Non-Resident medical staff 2 oncology and 3 / 4 haematology working Mon- Fri.







There is also resident cover provided with an Intensive Care Fellow

There is an opportunity for a full time role (as below) and also an opportunity for those who wish to undertake a post graduate degree (MD, PhD) to discuss options for a shared role such that the appointee would work one week on clinical service and one week off to undertake research.

For those interested in the full time role there is an opportunity to undertake speciality interests and training / educational opportunities in the afternoon period in discussion with the Medical Director and chief resident’.

Job Profile

As a Non-Resident General Clinical Fellow, you will provide high quality care to all patients across the surgical and medical ward areas you are allocated within The London Clinic.







You will be allocated specific wards to round on each morning (with nurse in charge, pharmacy and AHPs).

- Job Type : Full-Time, 1 or 2 year fixed term contract, with possibility of further extension.
- Hours / Shifts : WTE is 44 hours per week Inc. 4 hours CPD, working 8am-5pm Monday to Friday, plus up to 1 in 4 Saturday morning sessions (9am-1pm) if requested.
- Attendance at morning huddle (8am) and evening handover (5pm)
- There may also be the option to support a PhD or higher degree of study and reduce the working hours.
- CPD will be supported for appropriate external meetings with MD approval
- Opportunities to work with colleagues on Quality Improvement and Audit projects
- Attendance at monthly CPD in house sessions
- Attendance at monthly M&M; meetings

- Salary : From £52,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Work closely and collaboratively with the Clinical Site Team, Modern Matrons, AHP and Nursing teams, as well as the ITU Fellows, Outreach team, Oncology Fellows and other Speciality Clinical Fellows.
- Provide clinical support to the relevant Consultants,





and be responsible for the clinical care of patients ensuring all in-patients on your allocated ward / s are reviewed daily and undertaking documentation, escalation when needed, as well as ensuring fluids / antibiotics etc are written up, and supporting discharge planning and notifications and writing up TTO’s.
- Ensure safe, high-quality care is delivered across The London Clinic.
- Ensure high quality timely and effective communication with consultants and other colleagues (ensuring compliance with information governance)
- Attendance at the 8am safety huddle between RMOs & Fellows, and 10.30am resus / safety huddle and evening handover.
- Ensure before leaving that all patients under your care have been reviewed and any concerns handed over to the Resident RMO.
- Ensure all records are accurately maintained and utilised,





including manual and computerised records for reporting and audit procedures.
- Contribute to audit, Quality Improvement workstreams, M&M;, Risk, Complaints and Quality meetings and the reports / investigations that feed these meetings working with Divisional Clinical Director, Medical Director and Resident RMOs.

Skills & Experience

- Full GMC Registration with License to Practice.
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification, with a resuscitation qualifications (ALS or ILS).
- Experience of working as a core trainee / Specialist Registrar with experience working within Medical, Surgical or other specialities within the NHS.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to recognise sick patients and understand NEWS / escalation processes.






- Effective time management
- To have competency in undertaking and assessing routine chemistry results, ECG, blood gases, routine imaging.
- You should have appropriate skills in the management of sepsis / bleeding, diabetes, acute kidney injury and acute neurological dysfunction and other organ dysfunctions.
- You should have an understanding and experience of escalation and management of a deteriorating patient and appropriate communication knowledge eg SBAR
- An understanding of Clinical Governance, Duty of Candour and GMC good clinical practice
- Effective clinical decision making skills, with a polite, friendly and courteous manner.
- Understand safe medicine management and display clear, effective and accurate prescribing skills
