The post holder will work as a skilled Nurse Specialist and work as part of the Neurosurgery multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality care to patients.

The specialist nurse will need to be an experienced, registered nurse with Neurosurgery / Neurology experience.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Neurosurgical Nurse specialist to join the Neurosurgical service to cover maternity leave for one year's secondment.







The post holder will work as part of a multi-professional team, working closely alongside Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Neurosurgery Consultants, Registrars, junior doctors and therapists to provide clinical support to the ward patients and their families.

They will act as a professional role model for their speciality and work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and sustain a clinically excellent service.

Main duties of the job

- Demonstrate politeness, courtesy, and sensitivity in providing compassionate care for patients, visitors / relatives, and colleagues.
- Contribute towards sharing good practice within the multidisciplinary team.
- Work cohesively with all members of the multidisciplinary team and promote effective liaison with the team in ensuring that the very best services to patients are always provided.
- Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary,





participate in motivating and supporting team members and maintain confidentiality with patients and carers.

Give written and verbal advice / teaching to patients and carers.

will be required to have all clinical extended roles to provide seamless high quality care to our Neurosurgical patients

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work with the Registrars, junior doctors and Advanced Nurse Practitioner to execute both elective and non- elective assessment, pathway planning on a daily basis to ensure high quality, specialised Neurosurgical care is received by our patients







The post holder will take personal responsibility and accountability for ensuring that Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and will ensure duties are carried out in accordance with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the professional code of conduct.

Demonstrate experience of working in the department of NMSK

Experience of working in a stressful environment and with emotional and aggressive patients and carers and the acutely ill.

Experience of presenting information, written and oral in a clear and logical manner

Experience of working under indirect supervision and acting appropriately on constructive comment

Essential criteria

- Current RGN, registered with professional body
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience






- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Experience of working caring for Neurosurgical / Neuro medical / oncology and palliative patients.
- Ability to problem solve and work to varying priorities
- Excellent MDT working skills
- Ability to maintain relationships with colleagues within the Trust and other organisations
- Experience of working as part of a clinical multidisciplinary team
- Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to undertake
- Excellant communicator and organisational skills
- Knowledge of the care and management of patients with neurological cancers
- Computer skills including data base, communication and auditing associated with the role

Desirable criteria







Knowledge of national and local developments in relation to cancer survivorship and understanding of national and local cancer issues, strategies and developments and their implications for practice and service development / provision

The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of the scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band.

Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
