Optometrist - Cataract Service

Location: 4 days in Bristol and 1 day in Devizes

Hours: Permanent, full-time, Monday - Friday with occasional Saturday. Flexible working hours.

Salary range: £70K

About the role

Working or a national growing organisation delivering outstanding care across 2 locations. Utilising the latest ophthalmic equipment, including IOL Master 700 and the latest edition Humphrey Visual Field Analyser. Specialist areas offered include cataract surgery pathways, age related macular degeneration assessment and treatment pathways and ocular-plastic pathway.

What we are looking for in an Optometrist:

- Qualified and GOC registered optometrist with ophthalmology
- 2+ years Experience in optometry within the specialism of ophthalmology - pre- and post-assessments of patients referred for refractive surgery
- Knowledge and skills in respect of ophthalmic disease e.g. glaucoma

Your main responsibilities as an Optometrist:

- Organise and undertake pre-operative and post-operative assessments, including specialised biometry and ophthalmic measurements, of patients during the pre-procedure or post-procedure phase of their care pathway
- Participate in the ongoing development of the ophthalmology services within the Hospital
- Managing appropriate referral onto other Consultants, or back to General Practitioners,





for further assessment and treatment where indicated
- Ensure completion of accurate information and assessment within the patient electronic record and Medisoft
- Evaluate a patient’s suitability to undergo refractive surgery, and identify the appropriate course of treatment most suited to their individual requirements
- Provide verbal and written information and advice to patients pertaining to the proposed procedure
- Measure UCVA, distance and near, monocularly and binocularly, pinhole where required
- Examine the eye using the slit-lamp
- Participate in the local orientation/induction programme providing guidance and support and teaching to less experienced or junior staff as appropriate

- How many patients will I see each day?







Dependent on what patients the optometrist could see, it could be anything from 10 – 24 – i.e. it's whether the optometrist has sufficient training to be able to see first appointments.

- What are the start and finish times?

This can be flexible around availability and traffic. Core hours can be worked anytime between 7am - 9pm.

- Is it only cataract operations service?

The majority is cataracts but we do see patients who require YAG laser, oculoplastic surgery as well.
