Hemiko are recruiting for a Commercial Director working with the Chief Operating Officer, the Construction Director and the Head of Commercial.

Hemiko have a significant delivery challenge to deploy c£750m of new utility into the ground over the coming 7 years. This will be done by both in-house delivery and bringing external partnerships/contracting relationships. The successful candidate will be leading the commercial delivery of these projects.

The candidate will need to be commercially astute with significant experience in medium size construction contracts and working with Contracting Partners and joint ventures to deliver projects.





The Commercial Director will understand rapid scaling of resources to meet the growth programme of Hemiko which will quadruple revenue over the next 3 years and increasing.

The candidate will be focused on contractual set up, managing relationships, process, risk identification and mitigation, building partnerships and ensuring delivery of projects.

About Hemiko

Hemiko is a fast-growing innovative business which is looking to invest in and deliver over £1bn of heat network projects in the coming years. Hemiko funds, builds and operates low carbon district energy networks and building energy systems. Heat Networks make up 20% of heat demand over the bulk of Northern Europe, raising to 60% in Scandinavia. The UK is at 2% and in order to decarbonise our heat this is by far the cheapest way to deliver clean heat in the urban environment.

There is an ambitious delivery plan, expanding the business to meet the growing demand for low carbon heat throughout the UK.





We will be installing energy centres and underground pipe network in major cities around the country. This will result in our business quadrupling our turnover over the next three years with the need to match the resources in the Company to achieve this.

Some of our current projects include:

1. Delivery of the Worthing District Heating Network; Build, own operate a heat network supplying key customers from the hospital to the town hall.
2. The Clapham Park Heat Network; Build, own operate a heat network serving 3,500 homes in Clapham as part of a major regeneration project.
3. The Cardiff Council Heat Network,





design, build and operate of the heat network connecting the major government and other buildings in Cardiff Bay (including the Senedd).
4. Springfield Hospital: Build, own operate a heat network serving a major regeneration project in south London, including hospital buildings, considerable new build homes, schools etc.

The Role

Hemiko are seeking a Commercial Director to work with Chief Operating Officer, the Construction Director and Head of Commercial.

The successful candidate will have strong commercial experience with key skills of partnership establishment, contract management,





contract delivery and the drive down costs and to expand work packages in an innovative way. Experience in district heating networks is not essential however experience in managing multi-facet commercial contracts in a project environment is.

The candidate will be leading on multiple projects in multiple locations with both internal teams and external contractors.

Candidate

The candidate must have a clear understanding of how contracts work, how to manage risk and how to package significant projects appropriately to deliver the optimum outcome.

We are looking for someone who has an eye for detail in Commercial project management, self-motivated, and positive in their outlook. The company has a fast growth trajectory over the coming 3 years and beyond.





The candidate will be able to work as part of a functional leadership team and have oversight of the project team(s) to which they are assigned and take ownership and fulfil their tasks to the agreed objectives.

The candidate will need to be comfortable creating and challenging relationships and identifying best value options whilst delivering the Projects through service providers. They will be personable and a good communicator.

Key responsibilities (working with wider commercial team and delivery teams):

1. Work with wider team to set up projects commercially the right way (both up and down).
2. Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations and procedures and that they are implemented and being followed.
3. Ensure that delivery contracts are well understood,





managed and contractually implemented in a timely manner.
4. Ensure that sufficient resources are available to deliver the projects.
5. Monitor projects and report on progress against targets.
6. Identify and implement productivity and cost improvements in the Commercial and construction areas.
7. Ensure that cost to date and forecast cost to complete are being updated and reported on against each project at each stage.
8. Ensure timely submissions of variations and contract changes to the Client.
9. Ensure visibility of the performance of the whole project team and their roles in the success of the project.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

1. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in commercial management and will be experienced in managing multi-disciplinary projects.





They will be operating at a senior level in their current role and will be able to demonstrate the ability to commercially add value, reduce project risk and challenge internal and externally to achieve project aims.
2. Provide commercial advice into the management team on how to manage risk and deal with any issues arising.
3. Worked in Commercial and/or Construction with at least 5 years experience leading complex commercial project management.
4. Understanding and attention to detail on contractual interpretation and lead on those conversations with the Client.
5. Knowledge of heat networks is not essential but knowledge of Utilities provision is helpful.

Remuneration and Info

1. Remuneration: Base £TBC (depending on experience).
2. Discretionary bonus based on individual and business performance.
