· Part-time, Fixed term position - 17.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE) from 1 November 2024 till 31 January 2025 then increasing to 28 hours per week (0.8 FTE) from 1 February 2025 till 31 December 2026
· Based at Penrith Campus (Kingswood)

About the role
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will play a crucial role in the CSIRO/NSF Convergence Accelerator Program Phase 2 Project, focusing on sample fabrication, testing,





and material characterization of recycled thermoplastic composites from a Materials Science and Engineering perspective. Responsibilities include developing a detailed experimental plan, conducting sample fabrication and testing, analysing data to correlate rheological, mechanical, and thermal behaviours of natural fibre-recycled polymer composites, optimizing the Fused Granular Fabrication printing process, and establishing a material database for these composites. The Fellow may also co-supervise PhD, Honours, and Master of Engineering students.

This project aims to enhance the printability of recycled materials while maintaining the structural integrity of 3D-printed parts, pushing the boundaries of material science and engineering. The position is part of the ‘ReCreateIt: Transforming Plastic Waste Through Community Led Manufacturing (Re:3D)’ project, led by Professor Richard Yang and Dr. Tosin Famakinwa at WSU.

About You
The successful candidate will develop comprehensive research plans and proposals,





conduct thorough literature reviews, and prepare manuscripts for publication. They will be responsible for sample fabrication, testing, material characterization, and data analysis to correlate the rheological, mechanical, and thermal behaviours of natural fibre-recycled polymer composites. Additionally, they will optimise the Fused Granular Fabrication printing process and establish a material database for these composites. The candidate will present seminars and guest lectures, supervise HDR, Honours, and Master of Engineering students, and actively contribute to the intellectual life of the School and University through fund applications and participation in meetings. They will maintain project records, pursue professional development,





and ensure effective communication with academic and professional staff and students.

Applicants should be aware that this role will be based at Penrith campus; however, as Western Sydney University is a multi-campus university, travel to other campuses may be required when operational needs arise.

Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $109,861 to $132,730 p.a. (comprising Salary of $92,834 to $112,158 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)

Please note, the above salary ranges are at 1.0 FTE and the salary will be paid on a pro-rata basis at 0.5 FTE and then increase to 0.8 FTE as per the dates above.
