About the role
Student Support and Wellbeing Services is seeking a Residential Hall Warden to be responsible for providing out-of-hours wellbeing support and crisis intervention in UCL halls and houses.
Wardens manage and support teams of Student Residence Advisers (SRA) which, in turn, help students to settle into their new life in halls by encouraging a harmonious social atmosphere, maintaining order, and advising students with pastoral issues.
Wardens support their SRAs to organise and host inclusive community building events, and help residents become familiar with the hall and local surroundings.
The post holder will be required to reside within the Halls of Residence.
A self-contained flat (or equivalent accommodation, appropriate to the needs of the Warden) is offered free of charge for this purpose.
About you
As a Residential Hall Warden, you will live amongst students in UCL Halls and Houses and be committed to facilitating a transformational student experience.
You will manage teams of Student Residence Advisers (SRAs) with the aim of ensuring students feel settled and supported into their new lives at UCL.
You will be comfortable with working out of hours and be required to be on duty each night from to , including through weekends and holiday periods (as part of a broader team including Security Staff).
You will also be 'on call' and available to attend and support SRAs in emergency or crisis situations, including evacuations.
You will also demonstrate the following :
- Experience in dealing with welfare issues, including crisis or emergency situations.
- Experience in reporting and recording welfare incidents and ensuring any necessary follow-up actions are implemented
- Knowledge and proven track record in creating a sense of inclusion and belonging, including through student activities and events.
- Knowledge of 'Student Residences - General Regulations' as well as all relevant UCL policies and procedures.
- Be willing to undertake regular refresher training, including (but not limited to), mandatory SRA training programmes around Suicide First Aid, Mental Health Crisis support, Rape Crisis training, EDI - Report and Support training, Disability Equality and Awareness etc.
- Knowledge of UCL's recruitment policies and practices, including panel chairing.
- Experience in student disciplinary matters.
Please note, this is a fixed-term contract based in UCL's accommodation. An acceptable DBS check is required to carry out this role
