Overview of project/role

Working as a proactive member of the multi-skilled Museum Operations Team, the Museum Technical Assistant is responsible for delivering the smooth and efficient running of all Museum displays, audio visual, presentation, lecture, buildings and ICT systems, equipment and facilities services; both public facing and internal.

On a seven day rostered basis, the Museum Technical Assistant is responsible for providing high standards of service, first line building facilities repair, display and presentation maintenance and development, and effective levels of safety for all of the Museum’s undertakings.

They develop and install displays, prepare exhibits,





carry out routine checks to monitor the condition of the displays, ensuring daily that all equipment, building facilities are fully operational, clean, well maintained and presented taking appropriate action to remedy faults as required.

Key Accountabilities

- The efficient day to day operation of all Museum premises at Covent Garden and Acton Depot to ensure that they fully meet the needs of the occupants; Museum staff, visiting members of the public and contractors within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- This role requires working out of hours and at live events when agreed in advance with your Line Manager in addition to normal working hours.
- On a daily basis switch on all working displays and ensure that any faults are promptly repaired and/or reported.





Check and prepare AV equipment and set up for lectures and presentations as required.
- Endeavour to reach a standard of 100% working 100% of the required time.
- Ensure that the Museum meets the required standards in terms of cleanliness and maintenance.
- To respond to the Facilitates and ICT Helpdesk requests within the SLA, with the aim of rectifying or mitigating the problem in the shortest possible time.
- To ensure that building systems are working correctly and to carry out servicing and minor repairs to hardware and fabric within their certificated abilities or to call on specialist contractors as required.
- To provide handyman services to the Head of Contracts and Facilities.
- To act as projectionist/technician for both private hire and Museum lectures,





events and presentations held at Covent Garden or the Museum Depot at Acton.
- To provide remote and on-site support to Museum lectures, events and presentations held throughout the Greater London Area. This will involve early starts, late finishes and weekend work.
- To provide first line ICT support to public facing services (computers, servers) in the absence of and under the instructions of the ICT manager and Network Administrator. To assist the ICT Manager and the Network Administrator in the construction, installation, testing and maintenance of ICT systems, including cabling.
- This role requires weekend cover for a minimum of 1 out of every 3 weekends.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Skills

- Strong organisational skills, ability to work under pressure,





manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines, ability to prioritise complex and demanding work streams.
- Ability to set up multimedia equipment, including fault finding.
- Practical electrical and/or mechanical and IT experience are central to this post.
- Competent mechanical skills with basic hand and electrical tool skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships, and engage with stakeholders
- Creative and flexible with an innovative, customer focussed approach

Experience

- A professional Facilities professional with relevant facilities experience.
- Experience of working in a team.
- Experience of fault finding and fault rectification, a proven record of managing live presentations in a public environment,





of maintenance of electrical appliances and of maintaining mechanical systems
- Would have of ideally worked in a leisure or heritage facility which was subject to a regulatory licensing regime and has a significant number of users

Knowledge

- A professional qualification or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of the principles of visitor excellence and customer service
- Technical knowledge of the multi-service disciplines in Facilities including Mechanical, Electrical and Fabric; Health and Safety legislation.
- A confident ability and understanding of how to deliver basic technical production, live sound mixing and maintenance for events using Audio Visual technology.
