The Post

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to support the work of Dr Catherine Alexander. This NIHR Applied Research Collaboration funded post is available from November 4th, 2024, to February 7th 2025, excluding the Christmas and New Year closures. The successful applicant will assist Dr Alexander in carrying out a systematic literature review of interventions to support care for people with dementia where there are concerns about reduced awareness of difficulties.

The post will entail working with Dr Alexander in applying the finalised search strategy and performing searches in a number of electronic databases through the university online library.

The reference manager Endnote will be used to organise the search findings. The titles and abstracts will be screened for inclusion and full-text PDFs will be sought. Full text screening will be carried out, to produce a final list of articles meeting the inclusion criteria. Information will be extracted from the included articles,

using an Excel spreadsheet to record relevant data. The role would provide an opportunity to learn about applied dementia research and develop key skills in evidence synthesis. We will use systematic review methodology, adapted for a rapid review. Training opportunities include an online training resource on how to conduct systematic reviews. Understanding the contribution of the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement group will provide valuable context for the work. The post will provide an excellent introduction to dementia care research for someone considering a postgraduate qualification or further work in dementia research or a related area.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, and communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically.

Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
