About us

UCL is one of the UK’s premier universities and is regularly ranked in the world’s top 10. It is a world-class research and teaching institution based in central London whose staff and former students have included 20 Nobel Prize winners. Founded in 1826, it was the only university in England at that time which admitted students regardless of race or religion. UCL was also the first to admit women on equal terms with men. Today, UCL is an inspiring university in which to work and study and it continues to thrive on the diversity and creativity of its community.

The UCL Faculty of Engineering is the largest of its kind in the UK, ranked as the second most impactful engineering faculty in Europe and first for Research Strength in the Research Excellence Framework.

UCL Mechanical Engineering has been pioneering the development of engineering education, having taught the core discipline for over 170 years. We host internationally-leading research covering a broad range of activities and is spread over several sites.

This provides a highly stimulating multidisciplinary environment for learning and for scientific research.

In the latest UK Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021) 93% of our faculty’s research submitted was judged “world leading” or “internationally excellent”.

As a large multi-specialisation department the diversity of our research is one of our strengths, leading to many interdisciplinary research opportunities. This post is part of the NIHR Programme Grant for Applied Research and Administrative support for Mechanical Engineering team.

The position is created with support from Mechanical Engineering and a new NIHR programme and is funded until 30th June 2027. Subject to the programme meeting its objectives in the first 3 years of operation,

it is anticipated that further funding will be made available and the post should then be extended for a further 2 years until 30th June 2029.

The post will be subject to standard probation and appraisal procedures.
