Job summary
Tosupport the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery ofclinical and administrative services, working as part of the practicemulti-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to theentitled patient population.
The Healthcare Assistantwill deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment,preventative care, health promotion and patient education whilst alsosupporting the administrative team on an as-required basis.
Main duties of the job
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There maybe, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks;
this will be dependentupon factors such as workload and staffing levels :
a.Undertakenew patient health checks
b.Supportthe practice nurse with health promotion programmes
c.Carryout baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperatureand pulse rate, recording findings accurately
d.Facilitateroutine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
e.Undertakewound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
f.Supportthe practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
g.Carryout BMI checks as directed
h.Actas a chaperone as required
i.Whentrained, undertake venepuncture
j.Whentrained, administer flu vaccinations
k.Whentrained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse
l.Carryout ECGs as requested
m.Ensurespecimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
n.Providesupport during minor operations as required
o.Ensureall clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
p.Ensurefridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
q.Ensureclinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced inaccordance with the organisations IPC policy
