Are you looking for a role where you can make a real difference to the lives of young people with an eating disorder?

We are looking for a Senior Mental Health Practitioner - you may be a Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker who has experience in working with eating disorders - to come and join our specialist eating disorder team at Swindon Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

Swindon CAMHS is a multidisciplinary team; we are passionate about providing evidenced based care to young people and their families in the community, working in partnership with other agencies.

Your role will be within The Eating Disorders Service (TEDS),





supporting young people and families / carers with eating disorders in the community.

We are a highly supportive team, committed to your supervision and development; there's a wide range of development available and you would have access to a full range of internal and external training opportunities to enhance your existing skills and develop new ones.

For example, we can offer training around CBT-E / FBT.

Although you'd be based within TEDS, we'll offer you liaison and duty responsibilities so you can continue to work with children and young people with a variety of mental health conditions.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Mental Health Practitioner, you will be responsible for initial assessment, providing and evaluating evidence based interventions, supporting junior colleagues with supervision, working with students and being part of a highly skilled and supportive multi-disciplinary team.







There are opportunities for you to work within the wider Getting More Help pathway and support children / young people / families with other mental health difficulties such as anxiety / PTSD / depression / OCD;

this means that no two days are ever the same.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities







You will participate in a flexible working pattern within the multi-disciplinary team to provide cover for a core working day 8am-8pm Monday-Friday and 10am-6pm Saturday Sunday and Bank Holidays.

The role includes covering the on call rota outside of these hours on a rota basis. We have a robust system of support available for out of hours and on call working through Team Manager and Psychiatry On Call colleagues.

You will need to be able to travel to access different appointments within the community.

Relevant Qualification

Essential criteria







- Relevant professional mental health qualification - Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker
- Current registration with relevant professional body NMC, HCPC, Social Work England

Experience / Skills

Essential criteria

- Experience as a Band 5, or equivalent, Mental Health professional
- Experience in working with Children and young people with eating disorders, either as part of a dedicated eating disorder service, community CAMHS team or inpatient unit.
- Knowledge of mental health

Further Training or Job Related Aptitude and Skills

Essential criteria

- Compassionate - Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and relatives remaining sensitive and empathetic.
- Listens to others’ views respecting and valuing individual patient needs.






- Risk assessment and management skills, particularly in relation to Safeguarding children and young people
- All new starters have a thorough induction process, both local and Trust wide, which aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
- Appointment to this post is subject to the trust receiving satisfactory references covering 3 years of employment or study.
