Job summary

Are you an experienced occupational therapist keen to work in a fast-paced team, delivering tailored occupational therapy interventions in people's homes and communities and are you committed to managing risk in the least restrictive way?

If so, the Crisis Response and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) in Oxfordshire are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and skilled Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join their team.

Your role will focus on driving forward the Occupational Therapy pathway within CRHTT, building on and refining the recovery and occupation focused interventions delivered, providing clinical leadership to junior staff (inc.

Band 6 & 5 OT's, OT apprentices and support staff)





and providing skills and training for the team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Occupational Therapist who has a strong understanding of the contribution of Occupational Therapists in supporting individuals in mental health crisis.

The trust has strong AHP leadership structure and there are many local and external training and learning opportunities offered annually.

Your supervision will be provided by the AHP Clinical lead for adult and older adults who is an OT by training and there are additional opportunities for on-going training and networking with other Occupational Therapists in the Trust.

Main duties of the job

This post will evolve to meet the requirements of the NHS Long Term Plan with the post holder's full involvement. As the service will be growing and developing over several years post holders will be expected to actively contribute to the development of interventions.

CRHT occupational therapists offer short, intensive, activation focused interventions to support service users to increase, reconnect to,





or initiate activities of meaning to support recovery from an acute period of mental health distress.

The team delivery consists of specialist occupational therapy assessment followed by 1 : 1 intervention in people's own homes and communities.

- The role of the Band 7 Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist is to work as part of the CRHT senior leadership supporting team developments and contributing to the team delivery;
- define and refine the Occupational Therapy pathway within the team; complete clinical audits and collect data to support evidence base relating to occupational therapy interventions in CRHT's and ensure quality of delivery locally;

support with recruitment to, and growth of,





the Occupational Therapy team; to clinically supervise the occupational therapy staff in the team and to deliver specialist 1 : 1 interventions.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are some of the duties and expectations of the post holder.

To work with the CRHTT leadership team, clinical lead occupational therapists and AHP leads across the delivery to develop an evidence based CRHTT Occupational Therapy pathway that supports flow, continuity of care and recovery.

Plan, provide, develop and evaluate Occupational Therapy within the pathway ensuring that services are evidenced based and follow client centred principles.

Including documenting all stages of the process in addition to holding responsibility and taking a lead role for defined projects or specialist interventions.

To apply knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO)





and other standardised assessment approaches relevant to the clinical setting.

To manage the Occupational Therapy clinical performance in relation to the above and support the provision or data and reports to demonstrate both activity and outcomes.

To provide clinical supervision to the CRHT Occupational therapy staff in the safe delivery of assessment, care planning and implementation of occupational interventions specific to the needs of individual or groups of patients and their carers.

To delegate appropriate duties to other members of the team and follow up outcomes.

Work in a recovery-focused, trauma informed way providing complex 1 : 1 occupational therapy assessments and interventions

To assess for, and provide, equipment to support individuals safely mobilising and participating in self-care activities and occupations of meaning







To act as intermediary with health and social care to ensure people get timely access to any necessary equipment and assistive technology to enable them to lead full and active lives with minimal disruption

To provide professional advice and updates detailing the OT interventions and assessments that have been provided and the impact on overall risk, independence and recovery.

Be responsible for supporting the flow of individuals through the pathway.

Take responsibility for liaison with the inpatient wards, community mental health teams, social care, housing, third sector providers and others where appropriate

To complete service improvement and quality improvement projects where indicated.







To support the development of allied health professional and occupational therapy across the Trust, including attending and contributing to development days and training.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

- Post-qualifying experience working as an Occupational Therapist in range of mental health settings
- Understanding of the application of physical health skills in mental health

Desirable

- Ongoing evidence of professional development, involvement in quality improvement and audit
- Knowledge of working with community and / or in-patient mental health ward and / or third sector providers.
- Understanding of Mental Health legislation and policy

Skills

Essential

- Evidence of working collaboratively within in an MDT
- Able to manage stressful,upsetting or emotional situations in an empathic manner.
- Managing and supervising people
- Leading quality improvement and audit
- Using a range of standardised and non standardised OT assessments

Desirable

- Qualification in management and leadership within a healthcare setting
- Sensory skills
- Ability to complete complex occupational formulations
- Using outcome measures

Qualifications

Essential

- Bsc (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC registration

Desirable

- Member of an RCOT specialist section
