Job summary

Do you have an interest in ophthalmology? As an exciting opportunity part time post has arisen in ophthalmic outpatients .

This is a rotational post between the Eye Care Centre, Leighton hospital and the new surgical centre ,Northwich

Ophthalmic outpatients is an extremely busy department, caring for a wide range of patients with a number of conditions, reviewing approximately 4000 patients each month between clinics held here at Leighton hospital and Northwich infirmary.

Occasional rotation to Northwich site will be required.

Any staff nurse working within the Eye Care Centre will gain a wide range of experience for example, overseeing different speciality clinics, carrying out vision testing,





children's clinics, assisting practioners with intravitreal injections using aseptic techniques, telephone preoperative clinics.

Main duties of the job

An experienced healthcare professional competent in all aspects of care planning, who is able to carry out a wide range of clinical skills, including area(s) of specialist clinical expertise and advice within the team control, by working collaboratively and cooperatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

The post holder will also take an active part in the leadership, education, development and supervision of the team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This is an extremely busy department. Seeing patients with a wide range of ophthalmic conditions.

As a staff nurse you will be involved in a number of duties including :

Assess patients vision using a number of different techniques







Asist in a theatre clean room room environment

Completediagnostic tests for patients

Carry out telephone and face to face preoperative assessment for cataract surgery.

Take on leadership, education and supervision of the team

Lead department huddles

Coordinate ophthalmic clinics on a daily basis.

Contribute to the ophthalmic health of all patients

Experience in numerous ophthalmic specialist clinics.

Involve patients / relatives / carers in the delivery of care.

Provide and develop a safe quality of care for patients and carers.

Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE

Essential

- RGN / RSCN / RM / RN Child
- Detailed knowledge of professional accountability and NHS issues
- Importance of equality, diversity and rights in patient care






- Evidence of continued learning

Desirable

- Evidence of advanced knowledge in specialist field
- Evidence of practice
- Additional qualifications in specific area

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

- Proven clinical expertise
