You'll be working, collaborating, and socialising with your colleagues across all three of our offices in the UK, Bulgaria, and India.
There will be a need to work outside of the normal office hours occasionally, but this can be remotely (from your home) and of course, this time will be recognised and rewarded.
As a Senior SQL Database Administrator, you will provide ongoing delivery and support for well-recognised clients worldwide.
You will be part of the DBA support team, that will deliver a first-class service to our clients. You will be communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational colleagues to ensure database integrity, security, and performance.
Your responsibilities will include :
- Establishing the access needs and security requirements of users and managing them.
- Identifying SQL database / instance performance optimisations.
- Performing SQL Server patching and support customer release deployment activities and upgrades.
- Writing database & client documentation, including procedures and definitions for customer environment specifics.
- Monitoring the customer environments via our monitoring tools and able to identify & troubleshoot the associated alerts.
- Ensuring that database maintenance procedures are functioning correctly.
- Carrying out capacity planning and provisioning of SQL Server instances or databases.
- Identifying cost optimisation opportunities for clients.
- Managing the HA and DR aspects of SQL Server.
- Providing custom solutions to clients and identifying the client needs.
- Acting as level 3 support for the DBA team and available for 24x7 coverage.
Qualifications
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of experience working in similar roles.
- Experience working in SQL Server Production Environments and managing critical situations.
- Experience working with SQL Server FCI & AlwaysON , troubleshooting & configuration.
- Experience and troubleshooting backups, restore and database maintenance activities.
- Familiarity with T-SQL scripting.
- Understanding query tuning concepts and identifying performance bottlenecks.
- Understanding the SQL Server setup, storage and best practices.
- Knowledge of the SQL Server data structures.
- Knowledge of the SQL Server architecture and database design / layout.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to think analytically.
- Willingness to learn based on feedback.
- Ability to identify opportunities and issues in SQL Server environments.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Ability to help plan tasks for less experienced team members and to support and mentor
Additional Information
Nice to Have :
- Experience working with Azure SQL Databases and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Knowledge of the Azure Infrastructure & Azure Backup Services.
- Basic concepts of Azure DevOps.
- Experience of other databases including but not limited to CosmosDB, Postgres, MySQL
- Experience of SQL Server Migrations to the public cloud
