Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of an area of

advanced practice at a level above that expected role of a band 7 sonographer,

ensuring effective patient treatment and diagnosis. The post holder will ensure

operational standards are met to ensure effective and progressive service

delivery. Effective communication with other Sonographers is essential to

ensure staffing levels are managed appropriately ensuring a safe, efficient and

responsive service.

In addition to the delivery of the ultrasound service, the post holder will be

responsible for :

- Training and development of appropriate staff within the clinical service
- Development and implementation of U / S protocols






- To lead on research and development
- Participation in expanded practice
- Promotion of service and Imaging quality standards
- To lead on clinical audit.
- To provide a highly specialised ultrasound scanning service such as

interventional procedures or advanced clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

To line manage the service in the absence of the Superintendent

Sonographer , IDA's and support staff including aspects of recruitment,

appraisal, CPD and performance management.

To organize and prioritise workload in the Imaging Department taking into

account service demands. To lead, supervise, support and ensure appropriate

training for all relevant staff.

To assist in the identification, design, planning and procurement of new

equipment ensuring positive liaison between all stakeholders during the

installation process.

To assist in workforce review in relation to variances in service demand to

ensure that the correct skill mix is utilised to the benefit of patient care.







To contribute to the maintenance and monitoring of imaging standards in

conjunction with the Imaging Quality Manager and Superintendent

Sonographer.

To assist in the development of protocols and procedures, in relation to

IR(ME)R 2017 requirements, which govern the Imaging Department, Trust

and external referrers.

To be responsible for the monitoring and control of stock and non-stock items,

and ensure adherence to the Trust's standing orders and other standing

financial instructions.

To provide positive leadership to all managed groups

To respond quickly and adapt to changes in service, patient and Department

needs.

To identify service development opportunities paying due regard to financialbalance.

Qualifications

Essential

General science based education to O and A level with a minimum of 1 science based A level or equivalent.

R) or BSc Radiography. DMU or Post Graduate Diploma in Ultrasound Relevant highly developed specialist knowledge acquired through post graduate study, Master's degree and / or relevant experience

Experience

Essential

Highly specialised ultrasound experience at an advanced level such as interventional procedures or skills at a level above what is expected of a band 7 sonographer.







Experience of managing a staff group at a senior level. Evidence of role extension. Evidence of lead on audit or research.
