Job description
Department of Physics, Denys Wilkinson Building, Oxford Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in High Energy Astrophysics.
This job is a fixed term for 2 years. This part-time funded post is available for an exceptional candidate to provide X-ray observations and analyses supporting the radio and optical observing programmes of Professor Fender’s research group.
The successful candidate will work with both observers and theoreticians to provide analysis of X-ray observations and work with a larger group to place them in the context of multiwavelength studies and theoretical modelling.
They will be expected to lead an X-ray observing programme which supports the radio and other programmes of the wider research group, and to work closely with the rest of the group on the analyses of these data.
They will be encouraged to join regular group meetings, publish their results in a timely manner and disseminate their results effectively.
Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining a doctorate in Astrophysics or a related field and ideally a strong background in high energy astrophysics.
Previous experience in X-ray astrophysics, X-ray binaries and / or multiwavelength studies of astrophysical transients will be an advantage.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a clear ability to lead and X-ray observing programme, to be able to work with both observational data and theoretical models, to be able to work in a team and communicate clearly.
