As part of the Specialist Operations Branch, the Firearms Training Unit is responsible for the delivery of firearms training to the Forces’ armed role profiles including, Armed Response vehicle Officers, Close Protection and Tactical Rifle Officers and, as part of the CT network, Counter Terrorist Firearms Officers in line with National and Regional Policy & Procedure.

The Firearms Training Unit is responsible for ensuring that Firearms officers are trained in line with the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum and the successful candidate's main responsibility will be to provide firearms training and associated activities as directed by the Chief Firearms Instructor.

Some of the main duties and responsibilities are but are not limited to :

- Preparation of training packages in line with National Police Firearms Training Curriculum (NPFTC) and relevant Firearms Training Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
- Delivery of firearms and associated training in line with authorised packages.
- Attending national and regional conferences / working groups as directed by Chief Firearms Instructor / Firearms Training Manager (CFI / FTM).
- Maintaining a thorough knowledge of the NPFTC, relevant legislation and SOPs through regular access to The Knowledge Hub and GMP Firearms Policy and Compliance Unit (FPCU) Intranet page.
- Conduct Audit / Stock checks of FTU resources as directed by CFI and Deputy Chief Firearms Instructor (DCFI).

The role although busy will be rewarding for the right applicant.

This is a designated post under the Force Vetting Strategy and the post will therefore attract an enhanced level of vetting.

Please note for applications which carry enhanced vetting you should have resided in the UK for the last 5 years.
