To facilitate the integration of human factors and ergonomics (HFE) into the corporate patient safety function, which sets the strategic direction for patient safety insight, involvement and improvement across UHBW (Patient Safety Strategy, NHS England 2019).
This role will be key to develop and support new ways of working across a wide range of Trust operational functions. Mentoring will be provided to enable the individual to expand and apply their knowledge of HFE to everyday healthcare challenges and progress towards professional accreditation in this field.
The role will be a permanent contract for 0.56 WTE.
We welcome applications from staff who have completed Masters level education in Human Factors.
- To develop, plan and lead a number of initiatives and projects to ensure a collaborative approach and engagement in HFE integration can be established across the Trust.
- To collaborate and develop processes to embed HFE into project planning, proactive and reactive responses to safety issues.
- To use highly developed facilitation skills to lead or support HFE approaches to addressing Trust issues and the management of associated risks.
- To apply recognised HFE methods and tools to analyse, interpret and represent highly complex data to identify systemic issues relevant to safety,
performance and wellbeing.
- To be able to apply HFE knowledge to identify key systemic issues to extract key findings and present coherently to support the development of actions and evaluation.
- Visit clinical and non-clinical areas within multiple hospital sites to conduct observational activities of clinical and non-clinical practice and assess environmental aspects of day-to-day work.
- To actively engage and develop original approaches to communicating, locally, regionally and nationally on HFE integration and implementation.
- Develop opportunities to develop research opportunities and present HFE interventions, which reflect the ground-breaking nature of this role.
- To deliver education and contribute to external publication and presentation of applied HF practice.
