Oxford Royale’s Film Academy programme is designed for students aged 13-18 who are passionate about exploring the world of filmmaking. We are looking for a teacher with a strong background in film production, directing, and screenwriting to inspire students through practical and theory-based lessons. The ideal candidate will guide students in developing their skills across various aspects of filmmaking, including scriptwriting,
cinematography, and post-production, while providing them with hands-on experience in creating their own short films.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver lessons using the Teacher’s Guide, adapting content as needed to suit the students’ interests and abilities.
- Lead engaging and interactive lessons on scriptwriting, storyboarding, cinematography, directing, and editing.
- Provide students with hands-on experience, guiding them through the process of producing, shooting, and editing their own films.
- Offer individualized feedback on projects to help students improve their filmmaking techniques.
- Supervise group projects, ensuring students collaborate effectively and contribute to each aspect of the filmmaking process.
- Handle administrative tasks, including taking attendance and attending staff meetings.
- Encourage students to analyze and critique films, developing their critical thinking and understanding of film theory.
Person Specification:
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in film production, including directing, scriptwriting, and editing.
- Passion for inspiring young filmmakers and fostering creativity in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and engaging way, adjusting teaching methods to different learning styles.
- Experience working with teenagers in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and fluency in English.
Position Details:
- Programmes are two weeks in length, with options for 2, 4, or 6-week contracts available between July and mid-August 2025.
- Teaching takes place Monday to Friday, with lessons scheduled from 09:00 to 16:00, though shorter hours may be available in some locations.
- Compulsory online and in-person training will be required before the programme begins.
- While teaching materials are provided, teachers are expected to adapt lesson plans to student interests and contribute their own expertise to the course.
Essential Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree (or higher) in film studies, media production, or a related field.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience:
- Experience in teaching filmmaking or working in the film industry.
- Knowledge of up-to-date industry techniques and tools for filming and post-production.
- PGCE or Master’s degree in film studies, media, or related field.
