Job overview
We are looking to recruit an experienced, highly motivated, and enthusiastic pharmacist who will contribute to improving the training and experience of pharmacists and trainees at Newham University Hospital.
They will be expected to lead by example and work closely with clinical pharmacy teams to provide expertise in education and training.
The successful candidate will join a supportive, integrated pharmacy team, committed to delivering high quality patient care.
They will have access to further educational opportunities and senior clinicians within Pharmacy and other disciplines who can provide mentorship and aid professional development.
Main duties of the job
- To support the Lead Pharmacist for Surgery and Anaesthetics in delivering high-quality, safe, and effective Clinical Pharmacy and Medicines Management services to Surgery and Theatres at Newham University Hospital.
- To manage and develop named pharmacists / pharmacy technicians within the team to ensure provision and continuity of service across the Hospital.
- To support the development of services Surgery and Theatres in line with the Newham Pharmacy Department and Trust Pharmacy and wider Barts Health Strategies.
- To support the service in managing the medicines budget and achieving the best value for resources.
- To ensure close working with the multidisciplinary and wider pharmacy team to optimise patient flow and patient outcomes.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post qualification experience in a relevant role practicing as a pharmacist
- Experience of supervising staff and leading a team
- Demonstrable experience of training and support of pharmacists / other staff groups
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to negotiate with and influence senior medical staff and divisional management
- Excellent organisational skills
- Demonstrable ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Current and relevant clinical knowledge in area of speciality
- Understanding of governance and medicines safety issues
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MPharm or equivalent
- Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
- Independent prescribing qualification or working towards it
- Postgraduate Pharmacy Qualification or equivalent experience (minimum postgraduate diploma level)
