From £43,450 per annum + plus enhancements (dependent on experience)

13 shifts per month, days / nights / weekends (08 : 00-20.30, 20 : 00-08 : 30) Ward Based

Role Overview







To deliver chemotherapy and systemic anti-cancer treatment therapy nursing services to patients for Oncology patients and to deputise for the charge nurse of the chemotherapy day unit when required.

As an Oncology Team Leader, you’ll have our patients at the heart of each decision. Stepping up in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility you’ll co-ordinate department activities and participate in clinical audits to ensure the smooth running of the department.

You’ll assess patient needs and develop, implement, and evaluate high quality and compassionate programmes of care. You’ll have the support of some of the UK’s leading Oncology consultants and state of the art technology alongside dedicated time for your development through training such as the Chemotherapy Passport competency (SACT).

What you’ll do :

Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of treatment.







Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing systemic anti-cancer treatment therapy;

assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families, and other cares by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care.

Ordering diagnostic tests within agreed parameters

Running nurse-led clinics as required

Work autonomously whilst providing clinical leadership, ensuring all patients have an accurate plan of care, which reflects the assessment undertaken and incorporates the issues and recommendations made ensuring clear documentation in the patient’s records.

Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in intravenous access, the management of central venous catheters, venepuncture, and systemic anti-cancer treatment therapy, delivery,





including management of anaphylaxis extravasations and spillage.

Practice immediate life support in order to facilitate rapid stabilisation and the appropriate on-going management of patients who develop acute treatment complications.

Assist in the development and audit of assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients who present with the most complex needs are referred to the appropriated specialist including patients and families who require more in-depth support and counselling.

Participate in the identification and development of clinical protocols and strategies to enhance both the continuity and standard of specialist care.







Ensure all patients are fully informed of the risks and benefits of proposed procedures / treatments, contributing to the process of securing informed consent.

Supervise and participate in the delivery of programmes of education and training according to the identified needs of clients, carers and other involved in their care.

Work with junior staff to identify knowledge gaps in relation to patients receiving systemic anti-cancer treatment therapy and ensure staff are appropriately educated.

Assist with evidence-based practice and clinical audit within the Oncology Department, raising the profile and enhancing the contribution of nursing to patient care and informing business and service development plans.

Fulfil the rule of mentor, providing peer support to staff working within the Chemotherapy Day Unit / Oncology Ward.







Comply with measures to actively manage and reduce risk to patients. Ensuring the formal reporting and recording of adverse incidents.

Participate in the evaluation of the service in terms of clinical effectiveness, clinical excellence, and cost benefit.

Identify areas of practice that require review or adaption to meet the changing needs of patients.

Follow current national guidelines on SACT therapy.

Support the oncology ward team as needed.

Ensure that patients experience the highest level of service, in line with Bupa Cromwell hospital Policies and procedures.
