Job Introduction

The mission of the BBC Concert Orchestra is to bring inspiring musical experiences to everyone, everywhere, with the ensemble’s versatility as the key.

For BBC Radio 3 the orchestra explores a wide selection of music, ranging from classical to contemporary. It has performed on many soundtracks, including Blue Planet, Serengeti and Wild Isles for BBC One, as well as recording new music for BBC Sounds’ Music & Meditation podcast and George the Poet’s award-winning,

In 2022, it recorded Isobel Waller-Bridge's score for Charlie Mackesy’s Oscar winning animated film, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse.

It performs in BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room Month for BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds, which featured over 20 collaborations with pop artists in 2023, including Stormzy and P!nk.

The orchestra appears annually at the BBC Proms and regularly at London's Southbank Centre, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall and venues across the UK.

The BBC Concert Orchestra takes a leading role in Create Yarmouth, a three-year residency with Orchestras Live, which aims to engage and inspire young people and adults in the Great Yarmouth area,





and it has recently embarked on an exciting partnership with the Universities for Nottingham.

The BBC CO offers enjoyable and innovative education and community activities and, in addition to Create Yarmouth, is also involved in BBC Ten Pieces, the BBC Young Composer competition, and the BBC Open Music programme.

Expected to help research, produce and deliver / publish content by contributing technical, editorial and administrative support to production teams.

Main Responsibilities

The Orchestra Team Assistant plays a vital role within the BBC Concert Orchestra, Orchestra Team, providing support across the operational requirements.







This includes administrative and music library support. It is an exciting opportunity to gain a broad experience of working in Live Music and orchestras.

You will provide a comprehensive administrative service across all projects (including admin support finance tasks, hospitality, travel arrangements, dealing with routine internal and external enquiries).

You will assist the orchestra team with administration including auditions, processing payments for players and supporting the on-road operation for players and staff.

We may also require you to support our music librarian in music preparation and disposal. You will often be the anchor for a constantly travelling orchestra team.

Are you the right candidate?







You will ideally have a good awareness of orchestral music and a creative cultural environment. You will be pro-active and have the ability to manage a busy workload across all areas of the Concert Orchestra administration team - you will be prepared to be flexible in support of the business needs of the unit.

You will need the ability to read music and have an understanding of the structure of orchestras. You will have excellent communication skills in dealing with people at all levels, internal and external contacts, the members of the public and colleagues within the BBC Concert Orchestra.

You will be proficient at data entry along with excellent attention to detail.

We will look to hold interviews in the week of the 21st October 2024 in London.







This is for a fixed term role where we’d like you to start as soon as possible as this contract must finish by the 31st March 2025.
