Rotational Occupational Therapist - Band 6

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join our community Band 6 rotation at East London NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a perfect post for OT's hoping to consolidate their Band 6 and clinical skills but equally we have an excellent reputation for developing experienced Band 5 OT's.

The rotations, lasting 9 months, will include :

- Community Rapid Response and Intermediate Care Team at Mile End Hospital, London
- Community Therapy Team at Mile End Hospital, London
- Wheelchair Service at Mile End Hospital, London
- Reablement Team at Town Hall Tower Hamlets, London






- Adult Social Care Tower Hamlets - East Locality Team at Town Hall Tower Hamlets, London
- Adult Social Care Tower Hamlets - Children with Disabilities Team at Town Hall Tower Hamlets, London

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with experience working with patients across the care pathway and a variety of clinical areas.

Individuals should have strong clinical skills and teaching skills as well as ability to manage a defined caseload of complex cases independently, providing comprehensive occupational therapy assessment and intervention, evidencing problem solving and clinical reasoning skills in line with evidence-based practice.

The successful candidate will display a strong commitment to patient centred care and be innovative, creative and dynamic.

The post holder will gain experience assessing and developing treatment programs for a broad range of conditions across various settings in the community.

All the OT's will be expected to participate in joint clinical sessions with their peers.

About us

Some of the rotational areas operate a seven-day service, covering core hours between 8am and 6pm. Actual working hours are specific to each team, ,





there is an 11am to 7pm shift in the Rapid Response Team.

Youwill need to be a versatile, adaptable team player who is prepared to work across a 7-day rota.

Potential candidates should have current HPC registration and ideally be a current member of COT and specialist interest group, along with evidence of post-graduate study.

You must have experience working within the NHS across a number of clinical areas, and post-graduation experience.

The rotational post holder will participate in the band 6 rotational scheme working across primary care and the Local Authority Social Services in Tower hamlets.

This will require working in community and clinic settings, with a large proportion of the work being undertaken in the patient's own home & / or the community.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work in a highly diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and socio-economically varied environment and gain further skills in a variety of occupational therapy specialties in the trust through the nine rotations.

The post holder will ensure treatment is of the highest standards regardless of cultural or language differences and support the staff you supervise in doing likewise.

Aim of the role is to provide high quality and specialist occupational therapy interventions to a wide variety of patients including the advanced assessment and treatment of patients, provision of individual and group education and treatment, provision of assistive devices and equipment (treatment and community),





minor and major structural home adaptations and provision of complex disability management and advocacy services.

Person Specification

Education / Qualification

Essential

- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent post graduate courses / training relevant to clinical specialty.
- DBS clearance

Other

Essential

- Understanding of and commitment to College of Occupational Therapy and HPC guidelines and codes of ethics and professional conduct.
- Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety Legislation and ability to integrate into clinical practice.
- Car Driver

Experience

- 18 months minimum clinical experience in a broad range of specialties relevant to the post on an inpatient and / or community basis
- Knowledge of a broad range of clinical conditions
- Equipment provision and assessment
- Working within a multidisciplinary and / or occupational therapy team
- Contributing to professional development and clinical education of more junior staff, students and assistants

Knowledge / Skills & Abilities

Essential

- Understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for occupational therapy and client care
- Ability to prioritise, organise and delegate
- Ability to communicate and present information, orally and in writing, in a clear and logical manner
- Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession






- Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes in line with local and national standards and policies
- Ability to carry out moderate to intense physical effort throughout the working day and manage competing demands and interruptions
- Ability to cope working in a fast paced and stressful environment and with emotional and / or aggressive patients and carers
- Ability to work autonomously, acting decisively on behalf of self and others, setting own priorities.
- Ability to assess and act against risks to self, clients as a consequence of exposure to clients and environments which may be highly distressing, antagonistic, open to aggression and / or unpleasant.
- Ability to assess, advise and educate clients and carers about safe manual handling techniques (including use of equipment and adaptations)






- Ability to assess for / review medical devices & other rehabilitative equipment for patient / clients, carers and others.

This includes safe handling, fitting and demonstration
