Job summary

Do you have a passion for mental health care?

Do you have creative skills which you can use to engage patients in an older adults mental health ward?

If so, there is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Activity coordinator to work alongside the Occupational Therapist, Nurses, MDT, Matron and Consultant Psychiatrist on Kershaw Ward at St. Charles Hospital.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a person who can use their own creative skills alongside our resources (art and craft materials, food, gardening, music, exercise, reminiscence and other resources, to engage patients and support them on their recovery journey.







The aim of the role is to provide interventions, using recovery principles, in order to improve the service users' quality of life and to support them to do the things they want to do and live the life they want to lead.

The post holder will receive regular supervision by an Occupational Therapist and opportunities for training through CNWL Learning and Development and the Recovery and Wellbeing College.

Staff are also encouraged to develop their skills through reflection and learning.

The post is based on Kershaw Ward (female and male ward) for patients who are experiencing both functional and organic mental health needs.

The role includes facilitating a programme of social, creative and therapeutic activities to both individuals and groups which promotes social inclusion for service users.

Activities take place on the ward and in the local community.

Person Specification

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential

- Previous experience of working in a mental health setting
- Experience of working within a team setting.
- Experience of working with a multi cultural environment.
- Personal experience of engaging in a broad range of creative activities
- Experience of working in a hospital environment

Desirable

- Previous experience of working in a secondary mental health service (paid / voluntary)
- Experience in facilitating groups and individual activities
- Teaching experience.
- Knowledge of a skill , artistic, fitness related, other that can be used to engage patients







EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

English GCSE or equivalent.

Desirable

Training relevant to a mental health setting

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES

Essential

- Good communication skills written, verbal, listening and basic use of up to date systems of communication Microsoft word, e-mail, fax, telephone etc.
- An understanding of the needs of individuals affected by mental health issues.
- Knowledge of a range of activities which could be applied within a ward setting
- Ability to plan, facilitate and evaluate activities with individuals and groups.
- Ability to work within a team.
- Ability to work independently, using initiative
- Ability to manage self and workload.
- Ability to work flexibly,





accommodating the needs of service users and the demands of the ward.
- Ability to self reflect and use supervision effectively

Desirable

- Knowledge of personal recovery principles and their application to service delivery
