Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a CAMHS Clinical Specialist within the Lambeth CAMHS River Team (Tier 3 generic).

We are looking for an experienced psychological therapist with a broad range of experience, including experience of working with children and families who present with a high level of complexity and require skilled and multi-layered assessments and intervention.

The post holder will carry out initial assessments and offer treatment according to their clinical and professional back ground and training.

It is important that the successful candidate has substantial experience of working with children and young people with complex mental health difficulties in a CAMHS setting.







CBT training is essential.

Main duties of the job

You will provide generic assessments including ADHD assessments and also have a role as care co-ordinator for cases on your caseload.

Undertake all duties in line with the professional Codes of Professional Conduct, and maintain professional registration requirements for the post according to discipline / profession.

The post holder will have responsibility for assuring the quality of clinical practice with specific reference to evidence based treatments within the team.







You will hold responsibility for ensuring that all team members participate in audit, evaluation and research in evidence based treatments.

The post-holder will have a therapeutic caseload, offering therapy to children presenting with moderate to severe mental health and behavioural difficulties.

You will also be working with the parents / carers offering them support and guidance. You will have the ability to deliver a range of interventions for children and young people.

You will manage your own caseload and provide specialist support to families with complex presentations and to the service's Band 6 CAMHS practitioners (including clinical supervision.)

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities : 1) Service and Team responsibilities

Participate as a multi-disciplinary team member in the setting and reviewing of therapeutic aims, objectives, standards and strategies to provide a high standard of care to clients and their families.

To ensure that all recording and reporting of client contact is timely, accurate, up to date and of good quality and within CAMHS & professional standards of record keeping.

To collect & collate information about individual clinical activity on ePJS.

Work with the team and clients to maintain a safe therapeutic environment.

Work to assure the quality of care through achieving high operational standards in clinical systems.







To maintain and ensure good professional standards and attitudes towards the care and treatment of children, young people and their families.

To link with other statutory and voluntary agencies and professionals as well as other CAMHS Teams in terms of referrals and joint work.

Maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication within the boundaries of confidentiality, with other professional agencies and departments, providing specialist advice and support where appropriate.

Contribute to the effective functioning of the team and service through attendance at relevant meetings, taking responsibilities within the service as appropriate and negotiated with the line manager.

Supervise junior members of the team (Band 5 - 6) or trainees from any discipline.

2) Clinical - Individual







The post holder will provide high quality evidence-based psychological / psychotherapy services to Lambeth CAMHS focussing on treatment, planning, implementation, and monitoring of outcomes.

To provide both individual and group interventions.

To provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate.

To work as an autonomous professional within registration guidelines and codes of conduct and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor.

To undertake service evaluation, audit and research.

To work creatively with team colleagues to provide quality evidence-based treatments to children, their families, carers and professional networks.







To deliver treatment interventions to children, young people, and families within the service.

As required, to provide staff consultation and training.

To monitor interventions by applying clinical outcomes and contribute to service evaluation in line with the CAMHS and Early Help quality assurance protocols and local directives.

3) Professional Conduct, Teaching, Training and Research

Undertake all duties in line with the professional Codes of Professional Conduct, and maintain professional registration requirements for the post according to discipline / profession.

Work in accordance and within the principles, policies, procedures and guidelines of all aspects of clinical governance.

Attend monthly supervision and regular appraisal meetings.





Make effective use of colleagues in sharing and participating in casework supervision and other forms of supervision when required according to local practice, including attending peer supervision meetings.

Plan your training schedule to maintain compliance with the Trusts and your professional mandatory training requirements.

Identify development and training needs with manager in accordance with Trust / Directorate guidelines. Remain up to date with changing practices and wherever possible make full use of all training and educational facilities.

Join and lead with colleagues in specialist teaching, consultation / support to other professionals and agencies. Participate in the provision of a good quality learning environment for trainees, overseeing placements and supervising trainees.

Participate in the monitoring, evaluation and audit of the service.

Work with others to undertake and promote research-based practice and use that knowledge in your everyday practice, sharing it with others in the team.

4) Freedom to Act You will manage your own caseload and work within a team but will have freedom to act within the service framework and Trust operational policies.

You will manage your time and your caseload within your job plan. You will be accountable for you own professional actions, your day-to-day work will be managed rather than supervised and you will initiate new clinical and service actions guided by broad Trust clinical policies and procedures.

You will be responsible for the management of financial and physical resources for yourself.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

- First level nursing qualification / registration RMN or RSCN or HV or First level qualification in OT, social work, or equivalent with related CAMHS experience or First level qualification in art, play, drama or music therapy with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems / needs, developmental / learning disability problems.
- Training in clinical supervision such as ENB 998 or mentorship and or equivalent experience and training.
- All applicants will require professional registration with a statutory body : ACP or UKCP, the Nursing Midwifery Council, General Social Care council, Health Care Professional's Council

Desirable

- Doctorate or Masters level qualification associated with child and adolescent mental health child psychotherapy, clinical psychology, family therapy, or equivalent.
- Training in CBT / DBT and experience of providing therapeutic intervention using these models;
- Experience of supervising others and / or training.
- Management and / or leadership training

Experience

Essential

- Experience and ability to function as a specialist practitioner in child and adolescent mental health.
- Experience of working as a case manager in child and adolescent mental health sector
- Evidence of good practice in child and adolescent mental health assessments, assessments of behaviour and performance, and family functioning.
- Experience of providing CAMHS interventions in group, individual and family work, multidisciplinary work.
- Evidence of experience of clinical governance and audit and the process of giving and receiving clinical supervision.

Desirable

- Working with families in a multi-racial urban environment.
- Experience of undertaking qualitative and quantitative research methodology relevant to a CAMHS setting.
- Proven ability to engage therapeutically with a hard-to-reach client groups, using a range of therapeutic interventions.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

- Good working knowledge of mental health disorders in children and adolescents.
- Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the general evidence base for treatment in child and adolescent mental health.
- Key legislation relevant to CAMHS setting : The Children Act 1989, 2004 and The Mental Health Act 1983, Human Rights Act 1998 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
- Good working knowledge of the London Child protection procedures
- The principles of clinical governance and CAMHS practice. Ability to work under pressure.

Desirable

- Group work within CAMHS setting.
- Skills in negotiating & influencing others.
- Evidence of organisational skills to deliver targets and meet deadlines.
