Job summary
Community Continence Healthcare Assistant - Band 3
£28,622 - £30,225 Inc HCAS Per annum pro rata
Part time - hours per week (WEEKDAYS)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic Health Care Assistant (HCA) to come and join our Bladder and Bowel team.
You will provide care to patients in their own homes, care homes or clinic settings. The post holder will undertake a range of delegated tasks, reporting to the Bladder and Bowel Nurse Specialists.
You will assist in the provision of a high quality and efficient service to all users .
You need to be sensitive to patients' needs and adaptable in working in often a very busy environmentYou will need a flexible approach to your work with good communication skills, sense of humour and excellent team working attributes.
The team you will be joining are supportive and forward thinking with patient care at the centre of all they do..
Main duties of the job
The post holder will perform continence reviews with patients in their own homes and work independently. The Bladder and Bowel Specialist nurses will provide support and training

Job responsibilities
The Community Continence Health Care Assistant (HCA) will be a member of the Bladder and Bowel team carrying out a wide range of duties under the direction of the Community Continence Nurse and the Bladder and Bowel Specialist Nurses.
The post holder will work autonomously, providing delegated care to patients in their own homes, care homes or clinics across the borough.
The Community Continence HCA will contribute to the provision of a high quality,
efficient community service, supporting patients and carers with planned programmes of care that follow an initial assessment by a Registered Nurse.
The post holder will also participate in the review of care needs / continence assessments.
Where necessary, role specific training and competency assessment will be carried out, to enable the postholder to carry out delegated clinical duties.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 - Direct Care or Health Diploma Level 3 or equivalent
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Desirable
- Care Certificate
- ECDL or equivalent
- Additional training or short courses in Bladder & Bowel care
Specific Skills
Essential
- Ability to provide essential care to patient group as directed
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to : ? convey sensitive messages with tact, reassurance and empathy ?
manage barriers to understanding / acceptance ? adjust communication style to audience
- Demonstrates an understanding of the need for sensitivity and dignity with bladder and bowel patients
- Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own workload
- Sound knowledge of Infection Prevention & Control principles
- Full UK driving licence access to a car for work purposes (business class insurance will be required)
Experience
Essential
- Proven experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Experience of working in a community nursing setting
- Experience of working independently as well as part of a wider team
Desirable
Experience of working with people who have bladder or bowel dysfunction
Information Technology
Essential
- Good IT and keyboard skills, including Microsoft Office and use of information resources, etc.
- Competent in use of electronic patient records EMIS
- Competent in mobile working mobile phone and laptop
