Job summary

Ward 8D NICU at Royal London Hospital are committed to the principles of family integrated care and timely discharge to the home, but with continued support from the neonatal team.

We are a large level 3 tertiary unit consisting of 43 cots offering support to many hospitals within our NECL network. We are inviting nurses who are qualified in Speciality and have minimum of 3 years consolidation of practice to apply for this post, who have experience in community follow up / visits and, parent BLS teaching and an enthusiasm to expand this service in the future.

Learn to develop your skills and increase your knowledge by becoming an experienced tertiary level neonatal community outreach nurse.

As the junior sister, you will be responsible for developing and taking the service forward, with an inspirational, forward thinking approach.

You will be expected to teach and support, both the nursing staff and the families on matters relevant to discharge into the community.

This career path will allow you to develop your portfolio, experience working within a large friendly diverse team, always willing to share and teach, caring for some of the sickest babies but experiencing the joy of seeing them discharged to home with family

Main duties of the job

To provide a seamless, high quality service from referral through to discharge, enabling the timely discharge for babies less than 36 week gestation

o Providing help and support to families during their transition to home by preparing them with training and teaching ie BLS, NGT feeds and encouraging self-confidence.







o To be a point of reference for staff and parents offering specialist community based advice.

o To liaise with the multidisciplinary colleagues according to need (SLT. Dietician.

o Participate in ward rounds and weekly MDT meetings

o The post holder will be working towards autonomous practice but but in conjunction with other team members and the leading consultant.

o Monitor the quality and standard of care provided by the outreach team byt completing monthly audits

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

- o NMC registered
- o Professional registration
- o Teaching and mentoring qualification
- o Specialist and intensive care

Desirable

- o BLS qualified
- o NLS qualified

Experience

Essential

- o Post registration experience
- o Experience at band 6

Knowledge

Essential

- o Evidence of dissemination of knowledge to wider healthcare team
- o Knowledge of implementation of community management plans
- o Evidence of parent teaching and data collection database
- o Sound clinical reasoning & decision making.

Skills

Essential

- o Ability to communicate clearly both within the MDT colleagues and families
- o Ability to work in a team essential






- o Able to learn within a team and independently
- o Able to escalate to appropriate manager any concerns.
- o Ablitiy to manage own time ensuring work done is to a high standard and in a timely fashion.
- o To be able to organise and prioritise own workload.
