Job summary

We are excited to offer a post for a Clinical Psychologist within the North Early Intervention Psychosis (EIP) team within Forward Thinking Birmingham.

This post is open to newly qualified psychologists as a Band 7 / 8a preceptorship, which means you will start on Band 7 and transition to 8a after 12-months depending on your development.

The post is also available as an 8a for those with relevant post-qualification experience.

The post holder will join a well-established and supportive Early Intervention in Psychosis service for young people aged between 16-35 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis and their families.







The Birmingham EIP service is comprised of four EIP teams located in different geographical areas across the city. This post is linked with the North EIP team, which is based in Finch Road Primary Care Centre, Lozells, Birmingham.

Each EIP Team supports the symptomatic, social, and personal recovery of young people with psychosis through the offer of NICE concordant care including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for psychosis (CBTp), Family Interventions for psychosis (FIp and Carer Support), and Supported Employment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessments, individual therapy, family interventions and group work.

They will be expected to work with the multidisciplinary teams and offer consultation on psychological approaches to working with psychosis, as well as teaching and supervising of qualified, assistant and trainee psychologists.

Person Specification

Qualifications and experience

Essential

- Qualified Clinical Psychologist eligible for chartered status.
- Knowledge of Early Intervention Psychosis Services
- Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment within context of an MDT.
- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.






- Ability to identify provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.

Desirable

- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
- Experience of teaching, training, staff support, research
- Experience of contributing to planning and evaluation of services
- Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
