Job summary

Want to play your part in helping improve the lives of children and young people? We are seeking two enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Practitioners, who have an interest in working with children and adolescents who present with a range of complex mental health Lambeth Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is a specialist multi-disciplinary CYP-IAPT Tier 3 mental health team.

The post-holder will undertake CAMHS assessments (including ADHD assessments) of children and young people up to age 18 with a formulation and diagnosis, and recommendations for treatment.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will have a therapeutic caseload,





offering therapy children and adolescents with complex needs. You will also be working at times with their families.

You will have the ability to deliver a range of interventions for children and young people. Close working relationships with members of the team and partnership agencies Social Services, Education and others is essential.

You must demonstrate an interest in multi-agency and multi-disciplinary work and be familiar with evidence-based practice.

There are excellent opportunities for CPD, in service teaching and supervision within the team and the trust. Applicants must be able to work independently and have good clinical / therapeutic and case management skills.

Lambeth is an inner city, ethnically diverse community. Applicants will need a good understanding of diversity issues. The team office base is in Kennington / Vauxhall and we also visit some young people at home or in school .

The working hours are 9-5. At the clinic we offer a late clinic 5-7pm one day per week.





The successful applicant would be contracted to work these hours.

Job responsibilities







Assessed supervised clinical experience working with children and adolescents with mental health problems / needs or clear evidence of transferable skills.

Working in collaboration with supervisor, service user, carers and MDT in assessing needs, planning and implementing care

Taking responsibility for care delivery in a specific area and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment

A good understanding and some experience of the following : Group, individual and family work, multi-disciplinary work, clinical governance and audit and the process of clinical supervision in CAMHS

A good working knowledge of the following : Mental health disorders in children and adolescents

Difficulties common to Looked After Children attachment difficulties

Key legislation relevant to CAMHS setting : The Children Act 1989,





2004 and The M All applicants will require a professional training and relevant CAMHS experience in combination with professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies : the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) , Health Professional's Council (HPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)ental Health Act 1983, Human Rights Act 1998 and Mental Capacity Act 2005

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

First level nursing qualification / registration RMN OR or RSCN or HV with related CAMHS OR First level qualification in Occupational therapy, Clinical or Counselling Psychology, Social work, or equivalent with related CAMHS experience.

oQualification as a Systemic Psychotherapist (Family Therapist) with relevant CAMHS experience.





oFirst level qualification in art, play, drama, music therapy or psychotherapy (leading to a registered qualification with one of the above statutory bodies) with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems / needs.

Desirable

- Doctorate or MSc level qualification associated with child and adolescent mental health clinical psychology, family therapy, child psychotherapy
- Post registration clinical professional development. CYP-IAPT post graduate training

Experience

Essential

- Evidence of providing interventions in group, individual and family work, multidisciplinary work with young people, or able to demonstrate clear transferable skills with to this age group.






- Sufficient post-graduation experience in working within a mental health setting.
- Assessed supervised clinical experience working with children and adolescents with mental health problems
- Working in collaboration with supervisor, service user, carers and MDT in assessing needs, planning and implementing care
- Taking responsibility for care delivery in a specific area and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment

Desirable

- Experience of working within an IAPT service
- Experience of working as a case manager in child and adolescent mental health sector
- Evidence of good practice in child and adolescent mental health assessments, assessments of behaviour and performance, family functioning
- Working with families in a multi-racial urban environment

Skills

Essential

- Ability to work therapeutically with the client group,





using a range of therapeutic interventions
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to be 'reflective' in therapeutic practice and adapt practice from this reflection
- Demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Good written and verbal presentation skills

Desirable

Skill in using a specific therapy in practice

Knowledge

Essential

- A good working knowledge of Mental health disorders in children and adolescents
- A good working knowldege of key legislation relevant to CAMHS setting
- Assessment of risk and management of risk factors
- The principles underlying confidentiality and information sharing
- The principles of clinical governance and practice

Desirable

- Relevant research and its application to assessment, treatment and case management of CAMH disorders
- Research informed and evidence based methods of assessment, treatment and case management
