Job summary

Reporting directly to the Medical Imaging Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the management and delivery of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH) angiography and fluoroscopy services in relation to governance, workforce, performance, and finance.

They will ensure that our services are at the leading edge of health care practice and provide the best compassionate care for patients.

They will be jointly responsible for the delivery of financial, activity, waiting list and waiting time targets.





They will provide line-management and leadership to all staff for whom they have responsibility and be responsible for the development and maintenance of operational policies and standard operating procedures within their areas.

They have responsibility for service improvement which includes compiling business cases for capital investment relating to service development.

In collaboration with Medical Imaging colleagues, they will contribute to business cases relating to the wider imaging service development and will be jointly responsible for developing and delivery of the directorate strategy and business plan.

The post holder will take shared responsibility with the Organisational Principal Lead Radiographer to ensure dose optimisation and high standards of image quality within fluoroscopy and the cardiac, vascular, neuro angiography services.

Main duties of the job

To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of their practice, working within National legislation and Departmental policies, Codes of Conduct and Professional guidelines as defined in the 'Statement of Professional Conduct 2002' by the SoR.







The post holder willManage the interventional radiography services as integrated, coordinated services within the directorate.

Develop strategic plans to ensure services within the section are tailored to meet the demand. They will be responsible for the operational management and provision of professional leadership for the interventional radiography services and workforce, to ensure efficient and cost-effective service delivery to planned objectives, using resources effectively and efficiently to improve quality and productivity

They have responsibility for service improvement which includes compiling business cases for capital investment relating to service development.

they will contribute to business cases relating to the wider imaging service development and will be jointly responsible for developing and delivery of the directorate strategy and business plan.

They will be supported by the Organisational Principal Lead Radiographer to develop the radiographic workforce from graduate to Masters and Doctoral level as required.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

- DCR or BSc Hons in Diagnostic Radiography
- Post-graduate certificate / master's in clinical specialty or equivalent knowledge and experience in interventional imaging
- HCPC registration DCR or BSc
- Evidence of continuing CPD relevant to this post.

Desirable

- Project Management experience
- Teaching, coaching or mentoring qualification
- Chartered Management Institute (CMI) management and leadership qualification






- Master's or equivalent in leadership or management in healthcare : NHS Leadership Academy or Institute of Leadership and Manager (ILM) qualifications;

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

- PRINCE 2 (Projects in Controlled Environments)
- Human factors training
- Radiation Protection Supervisor training

Experience

Essential

- Significant previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within medical imaging in the NHS, including extensive technical knowledge of imaging services and equipment, financial management, service and capacity planning and management of staff.
- Understanding of all ethical and professional frameworks governing own scope of practice
- Experience of equipment evaluation, capital-replacement programmes,





procurement processes and asset management, including how to coordinate a preventative maintenance and quality assurance programmes for all imaging equipment and project management for new installation
- Extensive knowledge of service specification, clinical and patient pathways and associated quality in healthcare, including the setting and maintenance of quality standards and development and implementation of robust quality management systems, including where relevant the Quality Standard for Imaging and ISO 9001 certification
- Clear understanding of NHS policy and experience of delivering against current NHS targets.
- Ability to use appropriate management and communication systems and networks,





including digital software packages such as radiology information systems, electronic patient and staff records, patient management systems and quality management systems
- Extensive radiographic experience in angiography and fluoroscopy, able to act as an expert in interventional imaging.
- A commitment to expand and develop their core knowledge using evidence-based practice and to work alongside other medical professionals to enhance their understanding of patient pathways
- Promote and develop a learning culture that values and supports the development of all staff and learners through appraisal and staff development frameworks, clinical supervision, mentoring and coaching skills
- Time management skills with proven ability to meet conflicting demands, targets and deadlines
- Participated in teaching at professional lectures, study days and workshops.
