Main duties of the job

UHS has one of the largest pharmacy departments in the country with over 300 staff and are nationally recognised for their innovation.

The pharmacist team is made up of over 100 pharmacists : including over 50 qualified independent pharmacist prescribers and five consultant pharmacists and leading national experts.

We are committed to supporting all our pharmacists in their development.

We are looking for a forward thinking,





motivated clinical pharmacist specialising in cardiac disease to work within the cardiovascular and thoracic (CV&T;) care group at UHS - a tertiary service for cardiology, cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery.

You will join a team of cardiac pharmacists (many of whom are independent prescribers) to work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver optimum patient care to CV&T; patients.

Job responsibilities

What youll do : Provide specialist pharmaceutical review of medication for cardiology, cardiac,





vascular and thoracic surgery patientsWork with the multidisciplinary team to advise on medication for CV&T; patients to optimise their careDeliver education and training to a wide range of healthcare professionals working within CV&TContribute; to department wide audit, research, risk management and clinical governanceDevelop guidelines to ensure safe prescribing practiceWorking with clinicians to optimise medication for heart failure patients and assisting with the development of specialist clinics for optimisation of secondary prevention medicines are two areas of development currently.

What were looking for : A pharmacist with experience of cardiac patientsIdeally already have an independent prescribing qualification,





but if not then we can support you training to become an independent pharmacist prescriberAlready completed or almost finished further postgraduate study in clinical pharmacyA highly motivated team player, who is keen to learn

This is a vacancy for a full time band 7 clinical pharmacist working in a department of over 300 pharmacy staff. The CV&T; pharmacy team is made up of pharmacists, medicines management technicians and SATOs delivering a pharmacy service to 180 beds.

CV&T; is a teriary service, delivering care to patients across the South of England. You will be expected to work 1 in 5 late nights until 7pm and 1 in 6 weekend days (either Saturdays or Sundays).

All staff are required to contribute to extended hours, weekend & bank holiday rotas

We have a strong commitment to developing pharmacist independent prescribers and to continuing professional development and training.

The post-holder will be encouraged to work towards the new RPS core Advanced Practice Curriculum and have the opportunity to undertake further study in either clinical or management qualifications.

We are also keen to support pharmacists developing as researchers and can offer support via the Southampton Pharmacy Research Centre.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

- Masters Degree in Pharmacy
- GPhC registration
- Sound knowledge of a surgical or medical speciality acquired working within a suitable specialty
- Meets Foundation framework / GLF competencies
- Audit and evaluative work
- Sound understanding of healthcare priorities and political agendas
- Experience of teaching and tutoring

Desirable

- Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience
- MRPharmS or equivalent






- Working towards RPS Advanced Core portfolio submission
- Training in medicines information
- Preparation of prescribing guidelines
