Job summary

This advert is for a Band 4 Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Activity Coordinator to working solely in the Brainbow Service, assisting in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy related duties across Paediatric Inpatient and Outpatient settings, aiming to increase, diversify and encourage physical and daily activity for children and young people with brain tumours during treatment and beyond.

Brainbow was founded in 2013 as the first dedicated Neuro-Oncology rehabilitation service in the UK. The service was established by local East of England charities, founded by the parents of children with brain tumours.







Brainbow was launched with the aim 'to ensure that all children with Brain Tumours reach their full potential'.

Over the last 10 + years the department has grown and adapted to best meet the needs of the children and family it serves and is now a fully funded NHS service.

Brainbow is a Multidisciplinary Team made up of a Clinical lead, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Education and Clinical Psychology.

The department is supported by a Service Manager and Administrative Assistant.

Main duties of the job

To assist in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy related duties for children with brain tumours in the Brainbow Service, as directed by, and under the supervision of a qualified Physiotherapist and / or Occupational Therapist across Paediatric Inpatient and Outpatient settings, aiming to increase, diversify and encourage physical and daily activity for children with brain tumours during treatment and beyond.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

- Good general education to GCSE or equivalent including evidence of literacy and numeracy skills
- Willingness to undertake relevant training

Desirable

Evidence of achievement of relevant training relating to child development, healthcare, education and / or rehabilitation

Experience

Essential

- General experience in dealing with members of the public
- Experience of accepting responsibility for own work

Desirable







- Experience in the NHS
- Experience in a healthcare environment
- Experience in working in Paediatric settings
- Experience working in a Physiotherapy and / or Occupational Therapy Service
- Experience in a healthcare or education environment, such as a Therapy Assistant, Nursery or Teaching Assistant
- Experience of working within a team of mixed professionals with different processes and aims
- Experience of working with autonomy

Knowledge

Essential

- Awareness / knowledge of professional roles of Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapists
- Basic knowledge and interest in child development, mobility and independence difficulties in children and young adults
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection

Desirable







- Knowledge of the Trust including awareness of priorities
- Knowledge of Trust information systems

Skills

- Ability to support children between the ages of 0-16
- Able to follow and implement recommendations from other professionals, individual treatment plans
- Administrative and IT skills
- Evidence of self-directed learning
- Ability to manage own action list / caseload
- Applies practical approach to problem solving
- Able to demonstrate empathy, motivate and persuade patients and families in distress and / or with impaired cognitive abilities or physical senses
