Job summary

We are looking for Clinical Psychologists or final year Trainee Clinical Psychologists with an interest in clinical health psychology and the impact of living with health conditions.

You may have experience of working with physical health problems with either children / families or adults, or experience of working in child and adolescent or adult mental health services with a keen interest and desire to apply that knowledge to work in an acute are a number of exciting opportunities for band 8a clinical psychology posts working in the following medical services : 1) Paediatric Renal ( WTE 8a),2) Paediatric Endocrinology, DSD & Diabetes ( WTE 8a),3) Paediatric Respiratory ( WTE)4)





Paediatric LTV (long-term ventilation) ( 8a)

The postholder will join the respective paediatric medical service / s at Nottingham Children's Hospital (QMC). As a psychologist working in these medical services, you will provide a specialist clinical psychology service for children / young people to help them better manage psychological distress and obtain better treatment outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will involve working closely with the medical service multidisciplinary Team. You will work with children and young people through consultation to staff, direct work and by attending multidisciplinary clinics.

Your base will predominantly be at the Children's Hospital QMC campus.





You will be part of a welcoming and growing Clinical Psychology Department which incorporates specialisms in Paediatric Psychology, Adult Medical Psychology and Child and Adult Neuropsychology.

About us

There are opportunities for continued professional development and clinical supervision is well provided for within the paediatric clinical psychology team.

We regularly have trainees from the DClinPsy courses around the region, so there would be opportunities to supervise trainees.

You will also be involved in providing consultation, training and supervision as required to others within and outside of the multidisciplinary team.

The department has a commitment to clinical research. Strong support is available to participate in research or to develop your clinical research interests.

- Completed (or due to complete in 2023 / 24) postgraduate doctoral level DClinPsy in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS






- Current HCPC registration for Clinical Psychologist (or eligibility to qualify for registration in 2024)
- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS / HCPC

Desirable

Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

Experience

Essential

- Experience of working with children and adults with physical health problems, or with children or adults with mental health problems
- Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for client's psychological care and treatment
- Experience of teaching, training and / or professional and clinical supervision
- Experience of carrying out research

Desirable

Working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist in paediatric psychology or adult clinical health psychology

Communication & Relationship skills

- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups

Desirable

- Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies or assessment methodologies
- Experience of working within a multicultural framework
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group

Analytical & Judgement skills

- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including both quantitative and qualitative methods

Desirable







- Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for people with long-term health conditions
- Knowledge of complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
- Experience using qualitative research methods

Planning & organisation skills

- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS / HCPC
- Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations
- Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice
- Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public,





professional and academic settings

Physical skills

Essential

Ability to move between a number of locations within the Region in a working day

Other requirements specific to the role

- Up to date immunisations are required, including TB and HepB
- Ability to work on days to suit the service
